Would you train if you didnt have Protein Powder?

Sounds like a crazy question right?

I overheard 2 young guys in the changing room 1 said "why didn't you come yesterday?" the other replied "I ran out of protein, had to go and buy some from GNC today" I was waiting for a sarcastic response but his mate said "oh yeah you cant train without protein".

Im standing there pinching myself saying "dont bite, dont bite" :). I just wondered if there is anyone who wouldn't actually train if they didnt have protein powder.

or you could open it up and discuss the general misconceptions in the gym, supplements or crazy things youve heard.

I did also hear a PT tell someone they had "drowned" their protein it had now become useless as they put 500ml of water in the shaker and it only required 300ml and told them to pour it away and do it again.

Tbh I'd always make sure I have it, as I'm just so used to doing so, but if I didn't I'd still train for sure, and go grab some milk or something after, or just get something with protein in after, ready made chicken etc.

To not train because of 30 grams or so of whey shows what a pansy of a trainer he was.

There was a time where no one had protein supplements, nowadays we're used to different things in many aspects.

I remember a few months back I forgot to bag my pre wo and when I got gym I seriously felt like crying lol, still trained though obviously.

I love supplements but without I'd still train, and just eat some more, no biggy really.

If you love something let it go,if it comes back to you it's yours,if it doesn't it never was.

I'd still go, I wish I had more time in my life to not rely on protein shakes at all as I don't really like them.

I saw someone come in to the free weights area, sit on an incline bench and watch the footie match! He didn't come to do anything gym related at all haha!

My gym never has the TV on at any time, the big flat screens all around the gym are always playing old (very old) music videos!!

Yeah my gym has flat screens in every room, I must admit sometimes I watch a footie match and realise I've gone way over my rest time but seriously, who goes to a gym and not workout while watching it. I'd be too embarrassed.

Haven't heard anything quite as nonsensical as has been mentioned, but sometimes people get so caught up in the pointless minutiae of training lore, they miss the bigger picture altogether.

Lol and you just KNOW he was only going to be doing bicep curls
Recently I've been waiting a few hours after training to eat. (As part of my fat burning plan   )

How you didn't bite there is beyond me... I would have at least let out a laugh so loud that their overpriced tubs of whey trembled in fear.

This is just pure gold... Amazing these so called PT's can give out this advice. Shocking really that people would believe this, I can just see them all measuring water to the exact ml to ensure they didn't drown their whey. Perhaps we need to invent a protein life jacket to ensure it doesn't drown!

Rewing, I would have bitten through my lip trying to stop fom pissing myself with laughter.
The fact that they buy from GNC says it all.

Ignorance: Reassuringly Expensive.

People are blinded by supplement companies who market their protein powder as 'essential'. Protein is arguably not essential, brad Pilon did a book about how much protein you actually need. I digress, the point is you can fill any protein requirement with food. I know some people that are obsessed with taking 3 shakes every day. Fools with more money than common sense imo.

If your diet consists many protein shakes you’ve missed the meaning of the word ‘supplement’ and if you don’t train because you have no protein powder then you’re also a fool

I think most people would agree that protein is essential. Do you mean to say protein powder is not essential?

Yes I mean protein powder, you hear it all the time. Take Maximuscle as it will maximise lean muscle growth etc etc. In reality whole milk, fish, meat, nuts will do the same job.

I do think people overestimate how much protein you need too. Having read Brad Pilon's ebook on the subject the research suggests you don't need much more than 120g (if I remember correctly) a day, and any more is a waste.

My opinion is best be safe and eat 1g per lbs of body weight and I happen to love foods containing protein anyway.

I have the ebook for anyone interested in the subject

It's safe to say no one needs over 1g of protein per lb of body weight, however saying that I can have days where I eat double that, but that's just cause I'm being a greedy b*stard.

If you love something let it go,if it comes back to you it's yours,if it doesn't it never was.
