Yay me!

I feel the need to tell some people that may actually care coz my mates certainly won't be interested.

Progress in the last month or so has been the best I've had in a long time. I've improved my diet massively. Eating loads now. Not all of it clean but that isn't a concern at the moment. Virtually stopped drinking alcohol and that's from drinking every day. I've lost a bit of weight but I feel and look more muscular (I think that's the alcohol abstinance) and my PB's are getting beaten every session. Now I know these figures arn't going to impress much but personally speaking i'm well pleased.

(Bar weight not included)

Bench Previous - 60kg - 5 - reps (with spotter and help on last one)
Bench current - 60kg - 8 reps

Squat Previous - 80kg - 10 reps
Squat Current - 92.5kg - 10 reps (Still some left in the bank)

Military Press previous - 40kg - 5 reps
Military Press current - 40kg - 8 reps

Pull ups and chins previous - 6, 6, 6
Pull ups and chins current - 10, 10, 8

The only lift that hasn't improved is my deadlift. My best over a year ago was 102.5kg for 5 reps. I'm currently at 92.5kg for 5 reps and not finding it easy which is quite frustrating. Specially after reading Frankenjim's post (good on you BTW that 90 looks too easy for you).

I must also give a mention to pre work out supps. They've improved my sessions massively. Loving training at the moment. It kicks bottom!!!

Congrats EDBANGER. Excellent progress considering 1 month time span IMHO. I'm glad you found what works for you.

I myself am trying ATM to bring up my pullups from an unimpressive 4 reps to at least one full set.

Really well done. It is great to feel enthusiastic and motivated about whatever training or exercise you do.

Why not include the bar weights - you are lifting them after all

Cheers guys, the encouragment is aprrciated!!

I don't include the bar weight because i'm now exactly sure what they weigh. At least without it's a totally honest account of whats being lifted.

Been using two different full body workouts alternatively that I cobbled together myself. Gonna go with this for another couple of weeks and then maybe change it up a little.

Well I was going up like this

    60 x 5
    70 x 5
    80 x 5
    90 x 5

but I was really blowing out of my arse on the 90 and I felt progress wouldn't be easily come by so I switched to

    60 x 5
    92.5 x 5
    80 x 5
    70 x 5

the idea being that i'm lifting heaviest whilst i'm fresh. Whats the thoughts on this??

just stick 100kg on there and go to failure for 3 sets even if its just 2 or 3 reps start at 60 but do like 8 reps that is your warmup, then add the weight on, dont aim for 5 reps or thats all you will mentally get. are you doing a 5x5 routine mate?

Not using a 5 x 5 routine but I'm just using 5's on this lift. More than 5 feels uncomfortable and I figured this was more a strength building lift as opposed to a bodybuilding lift.

if by uncomfortable you mean pain then get it checked out if you mean uncomfortable as in tiring and aching then fight through it, dont worry about 5 reps do it like you do the rest of your exercises and you will progress like you progressed in your other lifts

Right then, deadlifts coming up in the next session. I shall give your advice a go. Just to confirm are you saying I go with

    60 x 8 warmup
    70 x 8 or failiure
    80 x 8 or faliiure
    100 x what ever I can get???

60kg to 80kg are the warmups to the 100kg so say do 8- 20 on those depending on how you cope with them, then for the 100kg do 3 sets to failure

PS then if you feel you can still do more, then work your way down to 60kg

How true is that. Why they cannot have a weight stamped on the end I don't know. Just sussed out in my gym that the Olympics have steel end bars (20kg) and the others have black ends. Nobody seems to know whether they are 12.5 or 12kg - not that it matters much.

Gonna do some browsing when after dinner is eaten then!!

I'd like to get a vid up actually. I'll see what I can do. I think I'd feel a tit filming myself in the gym though

Don't have a journal at the moment. I have run two on here before but I've just been lurking instead lately. I may get a new one going soon.

Start a journal mate, great way to track progress and to use as a point of reference if things don't go right.

    Went and did deadlifts today

    warm up

    60 x 8
    80 x 6
    100 x 3 x 3

3 reps seemed fine. Any more would have meant a compromise in form.
