Standard implimentation will be the ADSL modem straight in to the computer using a USB connection.

    Kitty,

Sounds like your ADSL connection might be dropping between the modem and the Exchange. Once the modem has "dialled up" to the Exchange it shouldn't need to do it again unless the line is interupted. That includes if you turn off your PC. I would make a quick call to your ISP and see what they say.

I have an ADSL modem. It's BT Broadband I'm with. Um....the modem link light is not on at the mo, think I'm disconnected again

Edit: I was, but I was still logged into MT and it still posted my reply. Strange cos normally when I log out of Broadband, I would be logged out of MT too

Is there any type of power saving on?

Is it a BT voyager adsl modem?

If you like I can go through my settings with you!

If you bring up the properties of the BT connection.

    Options tab

Change "idle time before hanging up" to never.

I have been having the same problem for weeks as a result of my ISP (nildram) upgrading to larger pipes, but apparently BT have been doing exchange upgrades also which is affecting people. My problem is sorted now, just updated the firmware for me router and all works now, strange.

if you're using bt then the chances are its a green alcatel adsl modem right?

i moved away from bt to ukonline

for my 1meg bt i was paying 26.99 and now for 8 megs i am paying 29.99

but the reason i left bt was everytime i picked up the phone the internet would disconnect

if yours is disconnecting after 5 mins i would check the options and make sure there is no auto-disconnect or idle function enabled

i would tell you to call bt customer services but i dont want you to be treated like a ping pong ball - so i wont

Um, can't find it now. BT think it's my microfilter that's faulty so are sending a new one. I don't think it is as I have a spare one and have tried it and it's still disconnecting. Pain in the proverbial

No, they sent me a new microfilter but it didn't change anything. I informed them and then was sent a link to their FAQ about technical problems. It has currently been connected continuously for 9hrs now but was still messing about this morning so I'm presuming it's still happening.
