Your main purpose of bodybuilding?

Be Honest.

Only one option allowed, yes I am talking about your main purpose.

For me it is personal happiness and satisfaction.

Now.... same as you.

When I started I was probably hoping to do something with it, it very quickly became apparent that this wasn't going to be the case but I then got kind of addicted/obsessed. Now it's a far healthier pursuit both physically and mentally for me and it simply what I enjoy doing (still with a degree of obsession just not detrimentally so)

Frankly Bodybuilding ticks off so many boxes, it's a no-brainer.

However, yeah, prime amongst them was Da Bitchez.  :)

When i left school most if not all my friends went into hard physical jobs, landwork, building sites, etc etc but i started an apprenticeship. Subsequently they developed mens bodies, i didn`t. So i started training to fit in i suppose, now  i cant stop.

A few reasons mentioned, relaxes me (after w/o), general health, strength, improved hormonal profile, self discipline, self respect, anti-aging (ie not weaker as I get older)
But main reason is to look better for longer.

Mine was 'preparation for the inevitable invasion of a physically superior alien race' but typically you did not create this as an option (you were very limited in the choices) so I went with 'Its just your hobby/you enjoy lifting weights'

Main reason is wanting to look good, I don't care about how much I can lift for example, I just want to have a good looking body.

Beyond that, there are many factors at play. To some extent it's about control, it is something that you have a large amount of control over regardless of what else is going on in your life and there is something comforting in that.

There's also probably a degree of internalised homophobia going on, in that having a muscular body is equated with masculinity, and to me masculinity is both desirable and aspirational, making myself more masculine in appearance could be in some way a means of proving that I am just as manly as any straight guy.

I voted for 'hobby', but my reason has changed with age.

I started when I was 11 by my doctors advice to help with my chronic asthma (he sent me to a trainer he knows, who ran a 'gym' in the local primary school hall. Closest thing to a gym in the area).
As a teen I really got into it to combat being skinny.
Late teens/early twenties looking good was my main goal, and focussed more on body building.
Twenties got into mountain sports so trained for my sport.

That's it. I rarely wear long-sleeved shirts these days as the inner elbows are too restrictive.

I was and still am on the slim side. Without weights and low bodyfat I could easily be 6ft 4 and twelve stone. I lift weights just to look half normal and not lanky / slim.

26 years ago, I started BBing because I was skinny.

Now, it's because I want to look good and it's my career.

I enjoy lifting the weights but wouldn't do it if it didn't make me look better.
