Your views on ZMA

"...no significant differences were observed between groups in anabolic or catabolic hormone status, body composition, 1-RM bench press and leg press, upper or lower body muscular endurance, or cycling anaerobic capacity. Results indicate that ZMA supplementation during training does not appear to enhance training adaptations in resistance trained populations."
From: http://www.sportsnutritionsociety.org/site/pdf/Wilborn-JISSN-1-2-12-20-04.pdf

ZMA is also included in James' 'waste of money' supplements in his eBook, concluding that if the diet is good ZMA cannot aid muscle growth.

But people seem to use it quite a lot, it's mentioned frequently, so who uses it and why? What does it do for you?

if you ask me its overhyped, its a vitamin supplement AFAIK, youll get a better night sleep by investing that hard earned money on some decent bedding instead of whats in that bottle with three magic letters attached to it

I used it years ago exactly as it said on the bottle, think it was back in the days i thought Maximuscle was the only Supp company, lol.

It did work for a more "interesting" sleep, as for training purposes, only gave it a month, so couldn't judge, but if it helps you sleep then even if it doesn't directly help with recovery, it could indirectly help, and last i looked AllinOne were doing it decently priced.

Don't know how important the taking it on an empty stomach thing is though, by starving yourself at bedtime, you could be doing more harm than good.

It gets a thumbs up from me. Worth the money for the deep sleep if nothing else.

I can't see how you could tell either way whether it helps as a body building aid.

It makes me have mad dreams and makes it harder to get up in the morning.

It doesnt help me get off to sleep which is what I bought it for.

I liked it. It's not even that expensive but once I start getting paid from my new job i'm going to get some, rate it highly as a sleep aid and therefore it helps with training.

Tried two different brands. If more vivid dreams mean deeper sleep then it probably does something worthwhile.
Does it do this any better than the multi- vit/mineral supp I now buy from the local supermarket at a tenth of the cost? IME no!

Well, its far from conclusive, but I took some for the first time last night. Had a good sleep, but it was an absolute ****er getting up this morning, whereas I usually jump outta bed!

The A in ZMA, is to represent that the Zinc and Magnesium are in Aspartate form, and most of the supplement companies say you cant make it up yourself seperately, though they would though, lol

But to be honest, it would be more hassle that way, if you want to try it, go onto the AllInOne website and grab it there.

    http://www.sports-nutrition.net/store.php?sub=3&id=15

£7.99 for 30 days worth, and goes down to £6 if you buy two and even cheaper when you buy more, at £20 not worth it, but at that price, you cant go wrong.

ever thought its not necessary the vitamins that make you dream but the food you consume before your sleep? Cheese is proven to increase brain activity while sleeping, strong cheese is best for heavy dreaming patterns.
