alcohol that bad?

For the past month or so I have really changed my diet and I have a good routine for wieghts and cardio.
I am still fighting to get rid of the beer belly though.
Its getting better though as I can feel the muscles below the fat.
I used to drink lager everyday maybe 3 cans a day through th week and 8-10 on weekends. I have cut this to 8 cans on a saturday.
How bad is this for trying to fight the flab. Will this be canceling all good work I am putting in through the week. I really want to get a six pack

no, it won't cancel everything you've done. Getting in shape does not have to be ur life... if u like to drink, then do it. Just keep it in moderation. 8 beers on a weekend night, once a week won't be too bad. You should attempt to schedule ur routine so that u do not lift on the day u drink or the day after. For example, if u drink on Friday night every week, make ur schedule so that Fri and Sat are off days from lifting.

Not possible. Have a look at this chart:

hmm i looked at the link http://www.at-bristol.org.uk/alcoholandyou/Facts/calories.html

Apparently nuts have high calory, yet on another site i saw it had high protein, so which is it? or is it both? is it good for you eating a packet? i am NUT crazy :)

Sorry if its out of context of the Main thread title!

btw ginjaninjauk, everything in moderation is good for you (except steds) but i think 8-10 cans of beer at weekends is pushing it abit!

NUts are a great source of EFA's or fat that your body needs to be healthy and grow, not too sure if salted nuts are a good thing though.............. I think if you are nut crazy that can only be a good thing........ eat away......

Protein is a macronutrient. Calories is a unit of measurment for energy. It can be high in both. Certain nuts can have higher amounts of protein than others but generally they are high in fats...another macronutrient.

    Salted nuts have added salt
As 'exercising people' the daily allowance is a bit higher but you'd most likely get enough through normal foods in your diet. No real need to 'add' more. Having them once in a while won't kill you. Have some water with it...

As for the alcohol...make sure you stay hydrated. In the end the alcohol provides a nice amount of empty calories so not exactly ideal if you want to have that six-pack. Drink in moderation if you have to. The alcohol can have an effect with recovery as well...
Put priorities first anyways...up to you, and you judge how your body will react to different things..and take it from there.

i'm at uni and i drink alot, admittedly i'm home for summer and i seem to drink even more cos i'm bored. But when i'm at uni i drink minimum 8 units every other day, and a hell of a lot at the end of the week! I managed to lose 2 1/2 stone in 6 months and improve my physique alot! Might just be me but as long as u put the effort in diet wise and in the gym then drink doesn't affect you too much.

Check my photos below if you want 2 see how i changed when i was still drinkin loads, all i changed was my diet and went 2 the gym every other day. Oh and also i only drank water in the day and nothing else, until it got 2 later in the day and the booze came out :D

Used to drink lots, recently gave it up after reading a thread on here about how bad it is - perhaps someone can post it

Even with spirits the calories are high, make you far less anabolic, makes you put on weight, less appetite, ruins workouts (for me) for ages, made me tired, dehydrated

I will drink again in a few months, but in moderation, feel much better for it, I now get up early and go swimming, loving life a LOT more

If im dieting i dont drink alcohol, its all empty calories, i do believe it will cancel the good work you put in through the week, you lose weight through a calorie deficit, if your doing good all week then putting all them calories back through alcohol on a weekend whats the point? Upto you though, how serious are you about gettin that 6 pack? if its very, then i would knock the alcohol on the head while cutting.

the time will decide on each occasion whether to drink or not.

if u can do without it do it then.

if u have real determination, dont drink.

But if u had a hassled day and u need a beer, then life is a bitch.

    its up to u.

You are lucky that you made the gains that you did. Just imagine what you could have done if you weren't consuming as much alcohol.

I've always been a weekend boozer and never found it to overly detrimental to my training. If I have a heavy one,the next day I havent got much of an appetite which is the worst thing. As much as I love training,I work my nadgers off all week at work,I'd go mad if I didnt go down the pub at the weekend and blow the froth off a few.

With my job there is no way I can knock it on the head all together. I work for a mobile phone companys tech and connectivity support. I need one day a week to get pissed to sort my self out.
I am just going to increase my cardio. As mentioned I used to drink everyday so once a week is a vast improvement.

Calories that your body doesn't need as they don't provide nutritional benefit. They're "nutritionally empty".
