anybody find front squats harder then back squats

Did squats for first time ever as I'm on my third cycle 4x6 and Would like to start fresh although I manage to go to 265 on back squats I thought by dropping the weight by 20% would be good enough to start fresh on front squats but I found that it was difficult, I could not get the technique right and I was no were near fresh so I had to even drop the weight all the way until 115 just to get the right groove.

Is this normal?

Once technique is learned, weight difference, IIRC is often said to be around 60-70% lighter for a FS. Obviously ATM you are trying to adjust so the difference will be greater. Personally I love front squats

I've been doing front squats for a while and they are hard. The most difficult thing I find is pushing through the heel. You've got to really keep upright with your elbows high while your body just wants to topple forwards.

Breathing is really hard as well since the bar blocks the windpipe. You have to take a deep breath and hold until the ascent. I always glow bright red and burst a few blood vessels.

I'm not sure if I've quite found the technique yet. I do find that I get quite sore just below the kneecap (around the top of the tibia) and do wonder whether I'm suited to the movement. I can front squat about 95 kg for 3x3 (not sure how good that is ?)

If you've only just started them you'll find them hard.

Personally I find front squats much easier than back squats. Jazz, the bar doesn't block the windpipe if you hold it in the right place!

mate just curious, assuming your front squat is heavy, do use anything on front squats such as padding or towel just so your shoulders won't kill cause of amount of weight that's on the bar

one more question how the hell can I prevent the bar from rolling?

My best front squat single is 140kg.

Practise using a clean grip (bar on clavicles, supported gently by hands in supinated position, elbows up). This will be hard at first but when you get the hang of it it's by far the most efficient way to front squat. The bar shouldn't roll if you do that right.

Is discomfort on the tibia common with front squats ? Or do I need to push through the heels more ?

I get the same problem with lunges or split squats they really make the shin bone sore. I'm beginning to think it's more to do with how my body is built than form.

mate do you suggest any padding or towel is neccessary so that you don't get bruised from the bar?

Absolutely not, IMO that interferes with the balance of the bar, it blocks the 'feel' (with all weights you need to know it is there and feel it IMHO, like a feedback loop)

YOu don't get bruised anyway. You'll have a red mark maybe for a few hours after but that's it...... it makes you a man

Never bother with padding myself...on either squats...far too risky incase the bar slips.

Discomfort of any kind during any movement is a bad thing and suggests strongly that you're doing something wrong.

MrNatural, If you learn how to do front squats properly with the elbows up and the bar across the clavicles you shouldn't need padding or anything like that.

Well it's not like you're doing everything light is it?

Never be afraid to lift a bit lighter than normal. Unless it's for ages you won't lose anything.

front sqads should surely be learned under supervision of a trainer, because they but a lot of stress on your erector spinae, doing them wrong is a sure way on to an OP table.

frount squat put less stress on the back then normal back squat i have help many friends with bad back start fount squating and they have not looked back i never had a trainer show me how to do the just read alot about how to do them started light to learn the move then started to work my way up i can do 100kg for 10 and have been to 130kg for 3 but i like 8-12 reps better as im doing the for size and shape 1st and strenth 2nd

    sorry about my spelling
