arms, shoulders and traps HELP!

Hey, I'm going to get back on the weights after a long time. Last time I was working out for over six months with very little muscle gain, so I must have been doing something wrong. I was wearing myself out but the muscle only grew slightly after the first month and seemed to stop there.

I want to bulk up my arms, shoulders and traps. Is there any exercises I should be doing in particular? How often should I work out?

I'd really appreciate some help if anyone can...

Hello fella, I'm a fellow newbie myself but I'm assuming you've read the sticky's in this section and the absolutely excellent articles available before posting this?

The comment "how often should I work out" makes me think this may be a good place for you to start if not.

If not, definitely start with Cashman's and James's sticky posts on this forum, and the articles located in: http://articles.muscletalk.co.uk/ Particularly the beginner articles, and a couple of good ones in the nutrition one.

I imagine others would be far better placed to confirm this, but from the reading I've done, nutrition is just as, if not more important than anything else in your training regime!

As a beginner I highly recommend you ditch training arms directly and worrying about 'show muscles' and focus on the main compound lifts performed in a full body routine 3x a week.

Check out Rippetoe starting strength or do a search for routines suggested on here by Citizen Kane.
