when i say best for what, it's because there's many things to consider

best for taste? - BSN Syntha 6 is widely considered to be the best tasting, primarily because of the high fat & carb content (over 50% of the content) but taste is the most subjective and a lot of people enjoy unflavoured
best for those with lactose intolerance? - a whey isolate or a non-dairy protein such as egg, beef, soy
best for vegetarians/vegans? - non-dairy, such as soy, hemp or brown rice
best for rate of digestion (fast or slow or staged digestion)? - casein hydrolysate (PeptoPro - digested instantly) or standard casein (slow) from any of the board sponsors
best for fewest ingredients? - whey concentrate or isolate from any bulk supplier that support this forum
best for most ingredients? - synth 6 has an ingredients list akin to war & peace
best for amino acid profile? - any protein blend that isn't amino spiked (all of the board sponsors)
best for price? - whey concentrate 80 from any of the forum sponsors
best blend? - very subjective as it depends on the individual's needs
best concentrate? - any from any of the bulk suppliers who support this forum
best isolate? - see above
best for baking? - Controlled Labs ProNOM is excellent for baking
best because of advertising? - Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard
best because of sales? see above as it's the most heavily advertised

'the best' is a very broad, subjective question as the best for me might be not be the best for you.

No mate theres not really a best. There is a standard you shouldn't go below which id put at 75% at least and id want it made up of whey protein concentrate, WPC not cheaper proteins like Brown Rice or Soya .

There are faster digesting proteins like Isolate or Hydrolised these are the most expensive if money is no object then these are better but I wouldn't say they are noticeably better to the average gym user except maybe if they have stomach issues.

I wouldn't go by a brand name , I have reviewed quite a few PHD products latley which ive really liked but other than that any bulk supplier that are on this forum will give you what you need for a much better price than the over priced brand names.

Enjoying the smart protein I must say, who are guys from maximuscle, the choc straw and vanilla flavours are absolutely delicious.

Strawberry is like strawberry angel delight.

And the vanilla is like vanilla ice cream.

Really good stuff, for branded I enjoyed dymatize which is similar to optimum nutrition but slightly cheaper.

If you love something let it go,if it comes back to you it's yours,if it doesn't it never was.

I would go with isolate.  Brand makes no difference.  Hydrolized is absorped faster if that's a concern, but tastes rank.  Brand generally makes no difference.  Some combine WPC, WPI and hydrolized, but never seen the point of having both hydrolyzed and WPC combined.

For the normal gym goer, any of the bulk suppliers whey protein concentrate is easily good enough. It's just a matter of searching for a flavour you like the sound of.

At the moment I'm loving Go Nutrition's jammie biscuit flavoured whey.

If you don't have issues with milk (lactose, casein intolerance) then concentrate is healthier. Less processed and contains more biologically active components like lactoferrin, lactoglobulin and other stuff.. also cheaper and more available.

Isolate is much more expensive (considering long-term use).. the only advantage I see is that it's basically pure whey-no lactose or casein.
