bulking from the begining with starting pics.

Hi guys...only signed up yesterday so pretty new round here and have done a lot of reading about diet as that has been my weakness since I started training a few months ago.

My diet has consisted of the odd tuna and pasta fromt he supermarket, regular kfc, some veg and griled chicken breast occassionally, no breakfast whatsoever and god knows how much alcohol.

I've just turned 19 andam about 6ft tall and weigh around 12.5stone possibly more now as I haven't weiged myself for a good few months. Waist size is a 32/34 depending on the jeans...Also worth noting is I am a t5 paraplegic as a result of a moped crash, and thus have no voluntary movement in my legs and most of my stomach muscles. I have some extent of movement in my upper abs but they're quite weak atm whihc also means I can't suck my stomach in lol.

I'm finding the diet hard ot crack but am tyring my best. The hardest thing is working how much of each thing to eat etc lol!

Anyways here's some pics of how I looked last night...they're a bit ****e quality but give you an idea.

Form today onwards I'm planning to crack my diet and have ordered some whey protein from myprotein and am awaiting it's arrival. It says "in production" atm :( Wasnted to get it this week really...

Anyways general comments appreciated, and anything that is going to give me some tips on how to reach my goals...

Because I can't get on scales I can't really use weight to judge my goals so am going to go by pictures and measurements. My arms at the moment are 14.5 inches (left) and 14.75 inches (right) Was 15" the other day lol! Althoh I aven't been to the gym since friday.

Anyways wish me luck! lol!

Oh yeah my target is to have 16.5 inch arms and the rest of my upper body suitably proportioned and to be lean. Is that realistic?

I'm not able to work out my legs as I am a t5 paraplegic as a result of a moped crash, and thus have no voluntary movement in my legs and most of my stomach muscles.

So just upper body for me! I'm not sure if this would effect how much I have to eat though?

Good luck with this mate. get that diet nailed and hit the weights hard and you should make some great progress. You will have to put a bit more thought in than the rest of us in terms of movements that you can do, but there is no reason why you can't get your 16.5 inch arms.

Cheers fot he support guys. GOt a coupel of protein bars to eat after the gym since the whey protein hasn't come through yet.

    So far today I've eaten:

Breakfast: 2 slices of wholemeal toast with peanut butter, 3 boiled eggs. Perhaps nto enough carbs? add soem oats too?

Then: 2 pita breads (wholemeal) with a tin of tuna and a boiled egg inside. Toasted.

Then a couple of hours prior to the gym I'm planning on eating a cupful of basmalti rice with a turkey steak (110g's ish) and some mixed veg.

Then post workout I was planning to eat a protein bar and then later have a meal consisting of Mixed veg, some more rice and a chicken breast.

Then before bed some cottage cheese on toast.

How is that for a days eating? Any improvements you could suggest? What do you think of the eating oats as well int he morning? Also what is the best waqy to cook eggs? Too many of the yolks leads to high cholestrol doesn't it? So coudl I just eat the white when boiled?

    Thanks. Ryan

Then before bed some cottage cheese on toast. yes good idea

IMO you could do with adding a few more meals in there eating every 2.5 to 3 hours a day stick your diet up in the diet section and let people have a look there

    hehe well day 1 complete!

    Today I ate:
Breakfast 2 x wholemeal toast with peanut butter plus 3 eggs (boiled).

    after breakfast but before lunch:
2 x wholemeal pita breads with a can of tuna an da sliced boiled egg.

    Lunch
basmalti rice, turkey steak (130g ish), and veg.

Then I went to the gym...I took a dextrose tablet before because I woke up late this morning so all the times are kinda bummed up.

after work out I ate a protein bar (promax) inr eplacement of a shake as my whey protein isn't here yet.

Then I had a meal consisting of rice, veg and turkey steak again.

Before bed I'll eat a slice of toast with cottage cheese.

My gym session I did chest and triceps.

Firstly I warmed up on the handbike for 5 mins.

Then did Chest fly's on the cable machine; 4 sets of 6, 7, 8 reps depending on how many I managed on that set vut always atleast 6 reps and to failure.

Then did chest press ont he cable machine. Again 4 sets. One set of 9 then I increase the weight but onyl managed 5 reps so put the weight down a setting again and did 8 reps and 7 reps, again to failure.

After this I did single arm tricep extensions with dumbells. firts set was 14kg's and I managed 9 reps on my left arm (this is theone I always go by as my right is stronger) Then on the second set I could only do 5 so went down to 12kgs (This is quite normal although I've never managed 9 reps before of 14kgs with my left arm...normally just 6) Then did 3 sets of 9/10 depending on how many I managed before failure, again going by my weaker arm.

After this I did one arm tricep pushdown on the cable machine...(would that be what they're called?) and did 3 sets of 10 on each arm. thne upped the weight for the final set and managed 10 on my left amr but then starngely only 5 on my right :S although I got a pain in m y shoulder whihc happpens quite regualrly...think its a trapped muscle or something. But it isn't curable apparently so just have to livew with it :D.

Anyways That's my days work...after all the food I've eaten i'm struggling to get any more down...still half way through the post work out meal!

How does that sound anyway guys (and gals if you're reading lol) ?

    Cheers!

    Ryan!

Generally me and a mate go to the gym together although we don't really spot for each other or anyhting. there are freeweights which I use for tricep extensions and when I train biceps too. Also do reverse flys with them for my back.

The reason I use the cabel machine for chest is because I find bal;ance dodgy on benches as they are quite narrow so it's easir to stay in my wheelchair...whn I have done bench press int he past I found my triceps were so dead I couldn't lift myself back into my chair for 5 minutes or so lol!

I'm guessing you were going to suggest using freeweights for chest exercises?

And thanks for all the replies people :)

Just read through your journal - good luck!

Try not to substitute solid meals for shakes, add them in between meals to boost calories and protein intake. Also have a nice fat shake before going to bed

Thanks for the replies, Breakfast today is the same as ever :)

I have some better pics to give people more of an idea of how much of a fat bastard I am :D lol! Plus I have some back pics...my back looks seriously muscleless to me...Any tips for good back workouts? BEaring in mind I can't really use benches. One thing I do is reverse flys and just lie across my lap, as well as of course lat pull down, but opther thasn that I haven't really got any other back exercises. Do traps Count as back? As I also do lat pulldown but behind my neck which I was told at the gym does traps. Is that enough?

    Thanks Ryan

    How about cable rows?

Wide and close grip lat pulldowns are good for lats, however I do pull ups/chins instead.

You should be doing shrugs for traps. Maybe sit on a bench with DB's either side of you [you may need a spotter].

Keep it up mate - I bet you will develop a great routine before long, it just experimenting with what works.
