cardio at home

What cardio can you do at home in your room? I have trouble getting to the gym because of work, university and other commitments, and If I go jogging after work in manchester I'm pretty sure I'll be mugged. What's a cardio exercise I can do in my room? (I have a 1 room flat)

Ive got a treadmill, the running deck lifts up when not in use,so it doesnt take that much room up.
You could use a exercise bike, rowing machine or if your on a budget one of those cardio videos,tae-bo etc.

mate i think youve got it sorted - youre more likely to get mugged if anyone sees you buying an aerobics video! exercise bikes are pretty cheap or if you dont mind annoying the people living below you why not get a skipping rope?

agree with boxer tho - even if you live in manchester you cant live your life in fear. look anyone in the eye (not advisable in prison) and have a permanent scowl - works for me

Well if your jogging, they would have to run you down, so you just gotta run faster. Having them chase you will provide a better, more intense workout.

I would suggest going for a run - people aren't going to be bothered to chase after you just to mug you...they'll go for an easier, slower moving target.

Alternatively, you could do circuits of burpees, press ups, shadow boxing, hindu squats, etc...be creative!

When i go running i carry nothing except a front door key with me making me worthless to any mugger should they try it. I foil them in advance.

Also just remembered M5's and J5's cardio magic try that

I walk my dog alone late at night around 'rough' council estates and do the same as Bengdogg. I carry nothing but a key.

there was someone who said about a card game on here.

Basically you get a pack of cards. For each sign you have an exercise.

    Hearts - Squat thrusts
    Diamonds - Pres ups
    Clubs - Sit ups

    etc etc.
for each card it tells you how many you have to do. 2=2 3=3. Pretty easy. Then do the whole pack. If your not knackered, do it again. Whole pakc should take about five to ten mins.

    Viola.

i'm female and run on the streets at around 6.00 am, sometimes in the summer when its too hot to use a treadmill it may be 3.00am.(i have to be back before husband goes to work) i did think about the danger, then thought i'm not letting fear stop me doing what i want to do.

my security tips are as others said, take nothing with you and dont wash you training kit so no-one can get near you.

i heard on t.v. once a woman saying that if a man is coming towards you and you real threatened, pick your nose to put them off. she had tried it and it worked. i think thats only to avoid rape so not a lot of use here.
