cardio before or after weights?

cardio before or after weights?

Right im sure there are mixed opinions on this point, but often when i train i do cardio and weights in the same session.
Do people think that it is best to have the cardio before or after the weights, ive generally been doing it before as like to get it out the way, but if there is a greater benefit to doing it after then would switch.

Any help appreciated!

    I prefer to do cardio afterwards.  Doing it before weights would hinder performance.

    Also, if I was doing some form of HIIT like sprints, I'd treat it like a weights session.

    Always after for me, that's if I have to do it in the same session as I try and keep it seperate. Although saying that as I'm getting older and more susceptible to injury I'm doing a good 5 - 10 minute warm up on the cross trainer before weights.

    as above, I have alsways been told o do it after, and its supposedly helps with recovery too

    after weights defo, also like mentioned treat HIIT as a weights sesh and do SSCV after weights

    Defintely after, no point knackering yourself out before you do the weights!

    Mission Impossible Targets for 2011-

    Bench Press 100kg
     
    Overhead Press 80kg

    Squat 150 kg

    Deadlift 200kg

    Get gut down to 32 inches!!!!

    Agreed, definitely after. Doing cardio before weights will deplete glycogen levels making your lifting performance poor

    I go with afterwards too. From an overall fitness persective I don't think it matters, but I like to lift when I'm fresh like the others on here.

    The other thing is, if you have one of those bad days on the weights, jumping on a good quality 20 mins or so of cardio afterwards makes you feel a bit better about the overall session.

    After for me too, usually a15-20 HIIT session on Treadmill or Cross trainer, but starting tomorrow a 25-30min fast paced walk on a very hilly Treadmill Course after each session.

    Right that seems pretty conclusive, thanks.
    Am trying to to cardio seperately, ie weights morning, cardio afternoon, but sometimes this just isnt possible with other commitments.
    Think ill stick it in after anyway for the times when going down that route

    I always do cardio after my weight session, especially to help with weightloss as exercising in a gylogen-depleted state is meant to ensure that you're using bodyfat as a primary fuel source (provided you're not taking on extra carbs!)
     
    also prefer to do it afterwards as cardio's tiring and I wouldn't want to discourage good form when lifting
     
    annoyingly when I was taking my gym instructor qualification we all had to structure sessions so that strength followed cardio despite us all agreeing with each other that we'd do it the other way round!
     
    It's important to train abs during the *last* part of your workout though as having a strong core is essential when doing cardio, particularly running, as the mid-sections holds everything together and prevents injuries!

    im an after weights guy as well, nothing too intense though

    and i also plan on doing hiit on seperate days and treating it similar to a weights session :P

    depends what your goals are, plenty of rugby training regimes will have you running, cycling and rowing before, during and after your weights, because you are trying to replicate the blend of strength and endurance that rugby needs, so lifting weights while you are aerobically fatigued prepares you for that.

    If you're just trying to stick some size on, do it afterwards, and sparingly.
