cardio cals and heartrate

I am mixing around all forms of cardio at present to drop bodyfat, so am exercising within a set heart rate zone.

The question is, if I am at the same HR (therefore presumably same effort, am i burning the same cals no matter what form the cardio takes?

Thats what i would have thought, but the machines at the gym say differently!

For example it will state that while walking on a steep incline i'm burning 400 cals/hr, (while my HR is 110bmp) but at a lower incline if I'm joggin and HR is 120bmp,it will say I am only burning 250 cals per hour!

And then the same HR of 120 on the cross trainer it will say I'm burning 600 cals /hr! (All these machines have weight factored in ..).

I know the machines make assumptions but if mine and Vasculars assumptions are right, they are pretty misleading?

but the amount of carbs/fat burned is determined by the HR, not by the number of muscles working....

Yes Origin was my first port of call but where is the man when you need him?!!!

Liz dont matter what cardio you do it all comes to your own zones.
Example is i have a client in the gym whos max fat is 134,spends half hour walking to the gym @ 134 then does a little circuit floating around 134 @ then goes in the steam pod gets his heart rate to 134 by adjustimg temp.
1 to 2 hours of easy ejoyable cardio???burning max fat.
The only diffrence is its what people can do without there hr flying up to quick and to high.
Bottom line for you liz is you know your fat bump, and it really dont matter what machine you use.
