Have you ever tried a 5x5 routine? You are pobably best starting with a routine like that before attemtpting lower reps.

You should buy a book called Dinosaur Training by Brookes Kubik too if you are interested in strength training. It will be the best book that you ever buy as it is awesome.

That's right mate. If you start doing Dinosaur Training you wont be doing any isolation exercises apart from some barbell curls if you wish and obviously rotator cuff exercises.

You wont be doing any direct tricep work if you follow Dinosaur Training because the tri's get hit hard during the chest and shoulder exercises and don't need any extra work.

Usually, just stick with the basic exercises, and go low reps, heavy weight.
