Calorie is a unit of energy.

Your body uses X amount of calories per day to remain alive, between 1000-2000 as a completely, very rough estimate.

Add to that your expendature- IE exercise or any other activity.

To counter-act/support this, you eat food, which is essentially energy.

If you eat the same amount of calories as you spend (through living and exercise), your weight remains the same.

If you eat more calories than you spend, you gain weight (either fat or muscle, depending on the food, the amounts and the type of exercise).  This is calorie surplus.

If you eat less calories than you spend, you lose weight (either fat or muscle, depending on the food, the amounts and the type of exercise).  This is calorie deficit.

calorie deficit is achieve by one or two ways or combining both.

a- eating less than you daily requirement to maintain your body weight
b - excercise more to burn more calories to put yourself into a calorie deficit
c- eat less and do more excercise to shift yourself into a calorie deficit.

option c being the most desirable.

    Any more questions ask away.

kk thx. erm i looked on a site

    BMR = 66 + (6.23 x 'your weight in lbs') + (12.7 x 'your height in ins')
    - (6.8 x 'your age')

worked it out and got 1926.9= BMR

so is this the munber of cals i should eat a day and then exercise to lose th bodyfat.

To lose 1lb of fat you need to be in a deficit of approx 3,500 cals. It is easier to think of what this is over a course of a week, so think of it as a deificit of 500 cals a day.  You could either achieve this by exercising to the tune of 500 cals a day, or drop a few calories in your diet and burn the rest of the cals through exercise - so yes, you could reduce your intake by 200 cals daily and make up the rest through exercise.

^You don't have to burn 500 calories during the exercise, intense exercise will have you burning more when recovering.

Sure you already know this, just saying

Yes I know what you mean, but we don't know that the OP is going to be doing "intense" exercise.  Anyway anything extra burnt after the 500 cals is only a bonus surely LOL!

So just out of curiosity, what is the average calorie intake you should have in a day to take that 200 off? are you looking around 2000 cal's per day, then take 200 from that, which leaves 1800 call's. then do the cardio?
