could someone please tell me..

what is the point of PCSO's??

they pay them around 18 grand and police officers are on like 22!!  both have to undergo training.  why dont they invest in more cops that can actually arrest you.

all i see pcso's doing is giving out parking tickets.

the pay difference is minimal surely you would get more bang for your buck if you get more real police.

I think the original plan was to use them as a spring board to full officer responsibility without all the costly training or something along those lines. Could be wrong tho usually am lol

do they not do the 'little' stuff like go and investigate or take statements for a stolen bike from a shed or graffiti etc.

aren't they designed to free up 'real' police's time more?

I wish I was more attractive like Dagless.

Thats the highest pay band. An office thats just finished training gets 22k and can work his/her way up the pay scale to about 28-30k

I've had a Community Support Officer round my house after my car was vandalised. I'd already reported it and the real police had been to collect fingerprints. She came to make sure that being the victim of a crime hadn't upset me too much.

I felt it was a little unnecessary as I'd only had my wing mirror pulled off, but I can see that other people who are frail or the victim of more serious crime would appreciate the visit. I was also glad that a fully trained officer's time wasn't wasted for this visit.

I would imagine that the difference in cost to the police force of using support officers is greater than the £4k salary difference. As well as the money saved on training, I guess it reduces the risk of investing in training people who then decide that the police force is not for them.

The are quite simply a cheap way to expand police numbers.

A bit like how a LOT of schools use unqualified non-degree holding teaching assistants and cover supervisors to teach lessons.

In the case of the police, why would the state pay 22-40k when it can pay 18..  why hire teachers at 20-40k when it can pay 12-14.

Why invest in our young people when you can simply invite in a million Eastern Europeans to live multi-occupancy to do those jobs?  We'll have a million Turkish here to join them soon enough...

THE PCSO's I have seen have been largely (literally) the same fat arse TA fodder I see in schools.  Pay peanuts, get monkies.
