USA DEALS

dips

basically i cant do them im carrying a bit to much weight at the moment. what is the best replacement for them or should i just do the negative part of the exercise untill i get stronger and can do them propperley.cheers

    you could do bench dips.

    Decline bench would best mimic the the dipping movement of pushing down the line of the torso. And as said above, bench dips can work the pecs - if you can get nice and upright.

    I couldnt dip at first, just keep at them and they wil come. well worth the persistence aswell IMO.
    now dipping with 20kg hanging off my belt. great chest builder

    Dip muscle involvement depends on the grip style. Are you talking wide grip or narrow?

    Narrow grip - targets triceps
    A good replacement for this would be skulls. Or CG bench. IMO skulls are better.
    Wide Grip - targest chest.
    A good replacement for this would be decline bench. IMO wide grip bench hits the chest nice.

    2 tips to get you started dipping:

    1) use assisted dipping machine. i assume if you had access to one of these you wouldn't be asking the question
    2) do negatives until you can do the whole move - just do the lowering part of the move and repeat for reps.

    and keep going with them they are a great exercise.

    would it be worth doing them twice a week as its a weak point or should i stick with once.

    Once should be enough. Your still hitting your chest and tris with other lifts
