Sounds as though you are prone to hypos and use up carb stores quickly.
Try firstly increasing the amount of complex carbs pre-training. Up it to 4 slices toast.
If that doesn't work, sip a drink throughout like lucozade or similar, throughout your workout.
Protein is not the only thing you need to grow by far, don't underestimate the importance of carbs!
