does 'when' you eat really matter?

does it matter as to how and when you get your calories as long as you get them in a day?
i eat a big breakfast, big lunch and big dinner.
i eat before i go to bed, and i will sometimes eat at about 10am during my break at work.

i see a lot of cases where your advised to eat breakfast, then a meal at 10, then a meal at 1 then a meal at 4, then a meal after workout, then a meal at night etc, and to eat lots of small meals.

but as long as i hit my 3500 calories etc does it matter if its small meals or if i eat several big meals?

    makes no difference mate

as long as you fuel your workouts accordingly and take in suitable calories and macros after, it makes little to no real world difference

the only plus eating more frequently has from experience is alleviating hunger and making it easier to get in the calories without feeling bloated for some

sorry mate, didnt know this had been asked that many times in here.
i find it hard to keep myself motivated to eat constantly all day as i have a busy work schedule but i do have a decent sized meal 3 times a day.
i just wanted clarification as to wether this is ok or not as i read all the time where people are having 8 small meals etc. and 'i eat every 3 hours' etc etc.

One big meal a day is good, if you dont vomit it across the room and can function with your gut exploding.
6 small meals is good if you love to live in the kitchen, eating tiny meals every time, thinking about the next one in 2 hours time.

Lol, Extremes have their negatives and positives.

Im sure i've read somewhere that your body will only use the energy it needs. So if you eat more than you need, the extra will be stored as fat for backup.

    Agreed.

While i do eat ever 2-3 hours usually its only because i find that easy to do and im quite greedy like that haha. Though sometimes i do have 4 big meals through the day..with the rest spread through Pre and post workout shakes/small meals and something small but protein rich before bed...usually cottage cheese or Quark.

to hard to get all the cals fit into 3 meals.
best to spread through 6 and avoid the hunger pangs.

issue with 6 meals a day is u need time to cook it and eat it - no easy feat.

i used to get so hungry when my diet was non existent, makes you snack on crap.
