dumbbell squats vs smith machine..

there isn't a power rack in the gym so the only way to squat is using either smith machine or dumbbells..I've done it using smith machine so far but I appreciate any opinions..

A few exercises which don't involve having a bar resting on your shoulders

all this talk about the smith machine not being natural is rubbish, when you squat the bar should be over the middle/rear of your foot for the entire rep, if its not then your form is poor.

the biggest problem with the smith machine and all machines for that matter is the limited recruitment of stabiliser muscles

Hacksquats and Single-Leg Squats look pretty good, might have to give them a go. Although i'd be following them with SLDLs, and am a tad worried that hacksquats in particular will effect what i can do with SLDLs,

with the hack squats you'll find that there is very little back involvement, most of the load is carried by the quads.

Been doing smith squats for a few years now.

It's a safety thing. No spotters, I can't clean and press the weight over.

Yes I would rather not use the smith for squats but I have no choice. And saying that it ain't too bad...
