    What kind of fear?

Exposure and response prevention is a part of cognitive behavioural therapy which you can do yourself (without outside help), and it is good for tackling situations which you are fearful about

Stone, do you mean as in boxing again?

If I get hit then I don't hold back, fear doesn't come into it then, once the adrenaline has kicked in.

I suppose it depends what type of fear you mean.

Nothing contributes so much to tranquilizing the mind as a steady purpose - a point on which the soul may fix its intellectual eye.

no i mean fear in people in general, could be fear from spiders, or from fighting etc etc.

fighting is a good example tho. you sometime see smaller guys fighting guy x2 bigger than them and the big guy backing down and onlookers think wtf!

When it comes to other people, i do not tend to feel fear. Obviously ive never had a person point a gun at me, so im not trying to say a person could never make me feel fear. But when im in a circumstance where somebody needs help, or i need to defend myself, i have never felt fear in the past. And i have been in these situations numerous times. I tend to act first, and think later. All i get is my gut churning for a few moments must be milliseconds, then i do whatever i need to.

Heres the funny thing, the other day, there was a rather large spider on my bed. I got close to it with a newspaper ready to whack it, and i totally froze with fear. I mean i couldnt even move, spiders for some reason activate a primal fear in me. I CANNOT explain why.

    Depends...
When I was a teenager I had no fear, I would be up for anything.
Now though, I have developed a fear of heights, no idea why, nothing has happened it's just appeared and even looking at heights on the TV turns my stomach.

I don't like confrontation, I don't handle it well and can not stay calm... I get the fight or flight feeling, it makes me feel really on top like a rat in a corner I tend to react out of panic basically.

That weak feeling everone gets it's like nervous energy and it saps your own energy to feed itself. Adrenalin helps counter that IMO.

You know before this I was writing a response that was saying how I don't ever recall being frozen in fear but then an incident with a burmese python in a mates house came flashing back to me and I deleted all that. Like Indiana Jones I hate snakes.

Funny story with that Python actually, our mate sent us out to the pet store to buy a gerbil to feed it, he couldn't go as they knew he was feeding them to a snake and wouldn't sell them to him anymore, anyhoo we went into the shop and asked for a Gerbil and the woman behind the counter asks "its not to feed a snake is it?" me and my mate went "nah we wouldn't do that" and then she asked "Which one do you want" and my mate went "the fattest one you've got".

Do it quickly!!! This worked for my a few weeks back jumping of cliffs (small ones mind 18ft max). Instead of standing at the edge listening to the guide, i stood back listened to what he had to say then stepped to the edge and off it as quick as possibly before I bottled it!!

I have loads of small phobias but spiders are probably my worst. I would get out of the area very very quickly in the presence of a really big spider. I would be a wreck if forced to have one on me. Smaller spiders I will hunt and kill from a distance or I cannot rest.

i supose the more you think about it the werse it gets, when i was younger me and my old m8s used to make tarzars from trees (rope round tree with stick on end) not just normal ones but oneyou could break your leg on if you fell of sort of thing. and the guy thats stood for more than 10-15secs we all new wouldnt do it cause they were thinking about it to much. normally if you were gana do it it would be done within about 5 secs.

the was tree that was nicknames "death" cause it was an old, high dead tree and one guy broke his leg and another broke his neck, there both ok now like. i never went on that one like, no one would after the leg and neck incedent

I would say do it quickly to, before you have the chance to think about it too much.

    Over-analysis leads to paralysis.

A mate of mine had a fear of heights so he walked accross a dam in Rhayader to help him get over it, but this is the same guy who thought it would be a good idea to tease a wild snake with a fishing rod in the australian outback.
