    wicked mate.

lol, sack of piss, well how many times can you close this sack of piss then

There seem to be quite a bit of difference between grippers - for instance i think my #1 is way harder than DMPM's, and poerhaps my #2 is tad bit harder as well, but i shouldn't say that because we have our competition on and it would sound like an excuse, lol!

My mates #1 is about somewhere between my #1 and #2 and his rusty #2 is a stiff one, i'd say almost like my #3 is!

So i guess there are quite a range of different strength grippers out there...

    Good luck with the #2!

If I can close the trainer about 10 times fairly easy, should I get a no 1?

symzie, while you are waiting for them, stop repping the trainer and do the following:

    - strapholds: put your old hopefully now unused straps to good use and wrap weights in them and lift the bundle of weights up so that the strap is in between the handles of your gripper. This will work your "close" part of the crush and is very good in preparing you for the next gripper.
    - inverted closes: close the gripper upside down, basically your index and middle finger will be doing most of the work
    - closes with less fingers: close the gripper higher up in your hand so that the pinky finger is not involved, then ringfinger and so on. Try the same inverted not using your index finger etc.

Do this couple of weeks and you'll slam that #1 out of box and can start doing the same with that one in preparation for #2!

I think the people who made my number 1 gripper accidentally etched '1' on the ends of a #3 or #4 cos mines not a sack of piss.

That said, i came about 2mm away from closing it the other day, but nearly broke my hand in doing so, the joint knacks and is only just improving, i'll have another go at it tomorrow, in between christmas meals.

I came much closer to closing it on that occasion, cold, than the other times ive attempted it with a warm-up.

Im sure that was why i knackered my grip for a few days, but i certainly came a lot closer to closing it than the times when ive warmed up properly.

mintaka, i was hoping the same

Same here, i get the best attempts totally fresh. All times i've got #2 2-3mm away have been the first attempts of the day, so thats how i intend to continue: #2 attempt and then either strapholds with #1, closing #1 with less fingers or forced close with #2 (using the free hand to help with the close or force it close against my leg - exellent for conditioning your hand)

Does a hard attempt at a gripper with no warm-up not bother the joints of your wrist vegan? thats where it seemed to hit me, for a couple of days afterwards it hurt when i made a fist.

M, it used to but not anymore - progress! Thanks for bringing that up mate, because progress with these things is so damn slow, that sometimes i think i never make any...

I also used to get severe pains in my joints in forearms, deep aching pain. Apparently it's quite common after heavy sessions, especially negatives, and someone suggested running cold water over it straight after training and it sure helped!

I'm really debating on getting one of these, just to play with. Should I get the trainer or the number one? I have never worked my crushing grip, just some supporting and pinch.

I posted this a while ago - might help you chose.

John Brookfield set a series of home tests you can do to determine your crushing strength: -

COMPLETELY crushing each of the following is roughly equivalent to closing the corresponding gripper (according to Mr Brookfield, though he hasn't closed the #4 so there is some speculation clearly).

Crush these as you would a gripper, do not dig your fingers in.

    Gripper #1 = apple

Gripper #2 = bulb of garlic (not a clove!)

    Gripper #3 = raw potato

    Gripper #4 = walnut

Obviously there is natural variability in these items but they are merely an approximation.

So you could use this to help guide you toward the correct gripper or you could simply have some fun mashing stuff - up to you!
