Hey rob, you could fill them with fairly wet concrete, on a 20l jerrycan, this would weigh about 45-50Kg as concrete has density of about 2.2-2.4Kg per litre (1l of water weights exactly 1Kg). Makes it a bit safer to use than taping discs to the side as i found out.
Single hand snatching with these are pretty good exercises.
Another good one is put rope through the jerrycan handle to a bit under shoulder height,use a bit of tube or dumbell handle on the rope and do shoulder presses, it's awkward with the jerrycans swaying about.
Another good exercise is hug the jerrycan close to the chest, put one foot behind you on a box and then do single leg squats, or do this with the jerrycan over your head, very tough exercises if done properly. You might need a bigger jerrycan or a big sandbag for this though.
