got me a jerry can

could some people who have them tell me what they filled them with, and what the appros weights are. mine is full of water at the moment, only about 20-25k i reckon [left some space so the water can swish about to make it harder], but it is great fun for Tget ups/1 arm snatching etc etc. going to intergrate it into the final edit of my routine, getting close to finishing that too. [at last].

P.S. if anyone is looking for cheap Jc's, check out your local halfords. i got 2 brand new'ens for £20 a peice.

When I first got mine I filled it with water. I then tried to make it heavier by filling it with sand and water. Made it slightly heavier, but not heavy enough for anything major. I used it a few times for side-bends, and it was ok for hugging to my chest for high rep sets of squats. I've not used it for about a year.

I'm thinking of using some duck tape and taping a 7.5kg disc on each side of it, that will make it around 45-50kg then and it would probably be quite fun to play around with.

good idea dude. it would be awsome for Fwalk if you could chain some weights [like 10-15k a side]. have you tryed pressing it like a dumbell, thats bloody hard.

Hey rob, you could fill them with fairly wet concrete, on a 20l jerrycan, this would weigh about 45-50Kg as concrete has density of about 2.2-2.4Kg per litre (1l of water weights exactly 1Kg). Makes it a bit safer to use than taping discs to the side as i found out.
Single hand snatching with these are pretty good exercises.
Another good one is put rope through the jerrycan handle to a bit under shoulder height, use a bit of tube or dumbell handle on the rope and do shoulder presses, it's awkward with the jerrycans swaying about.
Another good exercise is hug the jerrycan close to the chest, put one foot behind you on a box and then do single leg squats, or do this with the jerrycan over your head, very tough exercises if done properly. You might need a bigger jerrycan or a big sandbag for this though.

i want to put concrete in it eventually, but TBH, i'm enjoying the water swishing about and making it hard to keep stable ATM, will eventually work up to concrete, but once its in, its in. so taping plates on is a more tempary measure..
