hi need help

Hi I am quite new to this and I just need know what I am doing will work for what I want.
At the moment I am 17 stone and 6ft tall but I am a not really that fat but have some but mainly bulky and broad. I want to get bigger bigger muscles and more ripped with stripping the fat down so I look cut but big.
at the moment I am going to the gym 3 times a week doing heavy reps on say chest and triceps on day and back and biceps another and so on with a abs trained every time I go to the gym I then go for a 15 min blast on a tread mill or cross trainer and the a 20 min swim which is a lane pool not just a splash.
I then try and eat clean and healthy and I am keeping my calorie and fat content quite low but trying to keep protein and carbs quite high.
Am I on the right path or am I wasting my time?
thanks for looking

You firstly need to decide what you want to do bulk, lean bulk or cut? You cant put on mass and lose fat its to difficult.

Bulk - eat loads of healthy (but junk food too) put on muscle and fat (mind you some poeple just eat loads of food with no junk but some eat junk, it varies)

Lean Bulk - Eat loads but mainly healthy foods, maybe adding cardio to keep bf% from getting too high, gain lean muscle with little - zero fat.

Cut - Low calories, cardio, need to be strict and patient

Yeah i understand you wanna have muscle which looks big becasue its toned, you want solid definiton in your arms, eg the separation of your deltoid/upper arm

Do you train all muscles or just back, triceps, biceps and chest?

Lifting heavy, having a good diet and good rest will yeild good results

I training two groups when I train so say back and biceps and try to do free weights to get control muscles active and I use shock tactics to so I always train a different way to shock the muscle. I then run as long as I can which I am getting better at but as I am heavy It makes it hard and then I swim for 25 mins or so in a fast lane pool. My diet is ok I think for example yesterday I eat breakfast 1 bowl of special k with semi skimmed milk. Lunch salmon salad with no mayo and lots of grapes. Dinner tuna pasta with a little low fat cheese on top and a low fat yogurt and a banana. That’s it oh and only drunk water and 3 cups of coffee with no sugar for a lift before I train.
Does this sound good or am I missing something?
I was thinking of taking thermobol to lose the fat them once I have then start on some protein shakes like progain extreme.

to get what your after I think your going to have to have a big rethink
not trying to sound horrible but your going to struggle getting results, everythings just a little to vague, you need to get a solid plan and stick to it.

training wise you cant expect to get an all over good look if your only training chest back bis and tris, what about shoulders and legs! and if its only the beach kinda muscles your after then doing decent leg back excercises will help no end, i,e deadlifts will also work your arms and lats.
so have a look at different routines of people on here and remeber simple is normally better!
are you wanting to workout twice or three times a week? I'll recommend a workout for either of them

    diet
theres no point worrying about thermobol or anything else right now, for you there just gimmicks that you see in the magazines, you need to up the number of meals you have, maybe just to make it easier say, in the evening have cottage cheese near to bed and add another small meal mid morning. the food that you said you had been eating is fine, I would however be tempted to go for oats for brekkie and sometimes you want to be having eggs (not fried) feel free to have some whey use it post workout and also if you cant fit one of those extra meals in every now and then but try not to rely on it as a meal

    cardio
the best way to do cardio for fat lose is first thing in the morning before brekkie, are you able to do this? if not then keep putting it at the end of your workout and do either 20mins HIIT or about 30 mins steady state

    tracking progess
I'd start a journal (and let me know if you have i'll be your online personal trainer if you want) in it you can take pics, measurements etc to compare, its also a good motivational tool to make you keep going

if you go by what ive suggested then i think you'll see results much quicker, any more questions just let me know!

Thanks for the reply it is most helpful. I do try to do an array of different muscles and train my lats and so on I was just like you said being vague but I will have to make a program. The small meals are a great idea and I will start doing that straight away. I can't really do cardio in the mornings but I always do my cardio straight after training for about half an hour or more. I will make a journal as its a very good idea and I would like to see my progress and if you do mind helping me as my online trainer I would be very much grateful mate

Yeah you should be training all body parts if you wanna get big casue if you dont train certain parts and leave them your body will look out of proportion, leave out thermobol, are you getting 1g prtoein per 1lb bodyweight a day this is one of the most important factors, cardio in the morning if you can if not its no biggie, i agree with Imsimon a journal is a superb idea and you will get a lot of good advice from experienced weight lifters.

Have a look in the 'routines' section for ideas; there's some sticky threads at the top

You don't need to go mad and include loads and loads of exercises in your routine, just mainly heavy compound movements (the ones where several muscles are working together to move the weight). These be:

    Bench press
    Overhead pressing
    Squats
    Deadlifts
    Pull ups
    Rows

Make these the basis of your routine. Then supplement them with a couple of isolation exercises (ones where one muscle is doing all the work, eg bicep curls)

garnell nutritions whey gain is the best !!!

50gms of protien per serving, and 560 cals plus 88 gms of carbs overall after 2 servings

tastes great mixed with skimmed milk !

although, when mixed with water it doesnt taste like chocolate at all lol !

Ok thanks I will try some of that. what I have been doing now is spread the meals out so morning oat based cereal and a banana then about 11 am a banana and a small bowl of whole meal pasta or protein bar then lunch large bowl of cous cous whole meal pasta noodles and some fish or boiled eggs then 4 pm small bowl of pasta or banana then train and then dinner normal whole meal like fish pie or casserole grilled chops and loads of veg. 9pm small snack with high protein.
On none training days I knock the snacks out. I was thinking of not taking a set protein shake yet but maybe taking milk and egg protein extracts as its just pure protein so I don't bulk up on to much crap while trying to lose fat as well.

hello again! good to see your taking peoples advice! some people come on here, ask for help and then get angry when there told they need to change things! you should be very proud of your weight lose well done! diet is looking good, I think you would find it easier and possibly benificial to go for a whey shake rather than the extracts, they wont just bulk you up thats just what the magazines will tell you, go for one of the internet you'll save loads of money, most recently i used all in one, cant remeber the price but cheap and tasted and mixed really good! had any more ideas on what your training regimes going to be? are you training twice or three times a week? and have you started a journal yet?
