how much is too much exercise with abs.

Im trying to push my ab workouts as hard as possible without burning them out and reversing the effect of gaining of ab muscle. How much is too much? I tend to workout my abs almost daily. Could some people give me examples of their ab workouts or suggestions for one? Thanks

    wrong forum mate, you'd prob get a better response in the beginner, or bodybuilding routines section

    but from what i understand of abs, views are pretty varied

    some do no direct work and train them through the compound lifts... squat etc

    weighted crunches and hanging leg raises work well

    or simply weighted sit ups

    but then, im sure others would recommend an array of core work, oblique twists etc

    rep scheme can choose yourself, 3/4 x 8-12 seems to be popular

    how many days a week is appropriate for a good ab workout ?

    You can train the abdominals like any other muscle group... once a week, twice a week... depending on your routine.

    i always hear that its the one muscle that is pretty hard to wear out, so its good to work it out almost daily.

    Many people do a few crunches etc every day

    I'd say hit them hard once a week like YIB says.

    I now have a dedicated ab/calf day where, for abs, I do:

    3x10 weighted crunches
    3x10 weighted leg raises
    a few goes on the spinny thing (no idea what it's called)

    They also get hit indirectly on other days doing squats/deads

    Raw dead Lift 320kg
    Raw bench 171kg
    Shirted bench 200kg
    Amateur cage fighter @ 95 - 105kg

    uh!? lol

    I do twice a week heavy 12-15 reps whilst bulking (same as wiffers routine above without the twisty thing). When it comes to cut away the fat they'r there ready and waiting

    I do quite a lot for my abs...

    When I get in from work, I do 3x50 reps of normal sit-ups, then when I go to the gym...

    35 reps on decline bench
    35 reps on decline bench(15kg disc)
    2x35 leg raises off flat bench
    2x10 leg raises hanging from machine
    2x30 oblique work using the big ball thing

    I do try to do this after every session at the gym, sometime I think 'fook it' though

    alright thanks for the help. if i dont have an oblique machine, what ways can i get a good oblique workout with normal equipment?

    To work your obliques with no precise equipment, you can perform normal sit-ups but when you lift your body, allow for the right elbow to touch your left knee, and vise versa.

    Over load them

    Like every other exercise train them once a week or if you chose too do them twice a week. When i train mine i do cable crunchs - 2 sets of 8 - 10 and leg raises - 2 sets of 12 - 15

    I will do this to complete failure i know it doesnt look like a lot but wait till you do them, get it rite and u will only be able to do them once a week

    Leegee, heck that's a lot.

    I learned that killing them every workout just wastes your time and energy.

    Best results I have had is to firstly have a clean diet, secondly I work abs hard one day using no more than 2 exercises - say leg raises + crunches, 3-4 sets of 12 and obliques at the end of the next workout with say broomstick twists and or oblique leg raises. Then have a rest day and next work out work abs again, maybe with 3-4 sets of 12 decline crunches (roman chair bench) and knee ins. THat's all I do and I now have a six pack even thought my tummy is the area I usually carry most of my fat.

    Finally diet is the biggest factor if you want to actually see your abs - no amount of sit-ups can make up for poor diet.
