So you want advice on how to bring your deadlift up?

    > Work harder on your deadlifts.

Nothing contributes so much to tranquilizing the mind as a steady purpose - a point on which the soul may fix its intellectual eye.

Yes, assuming 'normal' anthropometry. Dwarfs like Stanaszek are obvious exceptions.

    Could be a number of things;

    - Poor posterior chain strength (quite likely). Most people should do more for hamstrings and glutes.
    - Poor starting strength / weak off the floor
    - Your squatting high (less likely)

OK in my opinion the three most likely causes for this are:

    1) You're squatting high
    2) You're squatting high
    3) You're squatting high

The squat is a prosterior chain (hate new this new terminology!) heavy exercise, even if you are doing a high bar olympic squat, the lower back, hams etc will be worked to a high level.

I have never seen someone who can do a genuine, competition depth 140kg in no equipment or belt only, fail to pull a 140kg deadlift.

The only other (possible?) option I can think of, perhaps in addition to high squatting, is that you are approaching the deadlift with the wrong mindset. Even with terrible form (i.e. stiff legging) you should get 140!

There's only 2 or 3 lifters who I can think of that have a genuine problem with the deadlift due to limb length (i.e. very short arms).

As above, I recon you arn't squatting to depth and your deadlift form is dodgy. Vid yourself from the side and post it up here.

Badboy - I might just be one of those freaks... I recon I might squat 150kg before I manage to deadlift 150..

    Body Weight - 83kg
    Bench - 145kg
    Squat - 190kg
    Clean & Jerk - 129kg
    Snatch - 98kg

Then something is wrong with your deadlift technique, training or attitude to deadlifting!

You don't have a limb length problem, your pressing shows that.

If you look at what people are doing unequipped, the overwhelmingly majority, if not all, deadlift more than they squat.

To be fair, i've seen women do a lot more than 140kg; but they were competitive powerlifters!

Down the normal gym (unless it's a powerlifting one/club) it's very rare to see anyone deadlifting, let alone above 100kg... and even more rare to see women do much more than hit the abductor machine and flick through Heat on the cardio machines!

This is a very useful insight - thanks. Perhaps you could contribute to the debate by posting a video of some of your lifts? As you indicate, you are clearly very strong:
    http://www.muscletalk.co.uk/tm.aspx?m=3120717

You also have well informed opinions on deadlifting technique:

The funny thing is, there used to be another chap on here who used to claim incredible lifts, also couched in Scottish dialect. He was called The Future; and even more funnily, you yourself out of the blue allude to the very chap:
    http://www.muscletalk.co.uk/fb.ashx?m=3008967

Said Future, posting under the name Tyson1, was subject to some merciless humiliation on PLUK, after claiming that he could squat 230 x 10:
    http://www.powerliftinguk.com/showthread.php?t=6041
    http://www.powerliftinguk.com/showthread.php?t=6836

I am sure that you could assuage many of the obvious suspicions which arise by posting appropriate evidence to support your claims of prowess.

Deary me, didn't realise he was such a sad troll.

OP: Get a vid of your squat or picture at the bottom position and we will be able to help you. A vid of your deadlift (doesn't have to be heavy- 100kgish) would also help.

reason my lifts are low is cause i was ill for a while and dropped to 13st and wasnt training for a while. i started powerlifting 4month ago once i was better.

my squat is sumo and is to parralel.
my deadlift is sumo stance also. i do have a lower back problem which iv had for a couple year now but i can deadlift sumo style ok.
tbh im not sure but i think the problem is my back strength more than my legs that needs to improve. i think i could stand up straigth with 140kg but my back would lean forward to much, i think this is the problem?

once i feel myself going forward too much i drop the weight since i dont want to agrivate my injury again. i think since this is in my mind this could be why? and cause of this i do keep my hips low.

i can get the weight off the floor a few inches then sticks at a point.

i will try and video my dead lift and squats.
