thanks mate, i get it now.

my question is this, at the moment i am not fully front "squatting" at mid point in my power cleans: i start with the bar on the floor, clean it up to my shoulders without getting under it as much as that guy in the photos on the web site, don't get me wrong i still have to get under it a bit [front squat?], but i am not right down with my arse on the floor?

    am i wrong?

A clean is when you do a full front-squat (arse on calves) to catch the bar onto your shoulders. A powerclean is when you do anything less than a full front-squat. Basically, the lower you go down to catch the bar, the more weight you can move.

if it won't take up too much time dude, what does your full routine look like? [i ask as you are 1yr my junior and your deadlift and squat are approx 1.5-2 x mine]

Clean and press - pull the weight shoulder width grip explosivly to the shoulders go in to a full squat when you catch it on your shoulders like a full front squat stand up and do a standing shoulder press

Push press - this is like a military press but you 'cheat' by dipping and quickly bending the legs and driving the bar over head changing it from a strict shyoulder exercise into working the legs hips and gluets

Snatch - grip the bar extremly wide (good quality bars have rings)pull the bar as high as poss and drop under the bar whilst jumping your feet out you are now in a full squat with the bar over your head now stand up

Hang Clean dealift it (using straps)go down just below the knee build up momentum and catch the weight on your shoulders

Power Clean same as a hang clean but just start from the floor if you brerak it down it to bb/strength movements it is like *deadlift, strug, upright row, catch it on your chest* but very crudly put

Clean and Jerk - as above ** then a jerk is a push press driving from the hips but you then split your legs forward and backward then bring them back together and finish

I don't get the hang clean lift nor the power cleans, basicly too me it just looks like you jump in the air and catch the barbell on your shoulder (which would break your shoulders).

I think that site is ****, and doesn't even cater for the people who are new to the exercise, they don't explain it well and only show it from the angle where it's no good.

Robert You may like to incorpirate (i know i cant spell) Power cleans one day and squat cleans another if you then go on to squat after full squat cleans it warms up the body

my best power clean 1 rep 142.5
my best squat clean 1 rep 170 the figures speak for themselves if you get the speed under the bar in the squat clean you benefit big time

PS PauliE It takes a lot more technique i find bench press uncomfortable to do so horses for courses mate

You're probably right i'd better stop doing cleans as i'll break my shoulders.

Which angle would you like it to be shown from?
