improving my tyre flip

i'm enjoying the tyre recently and iam improving but if anyone has any ideas for how i can improve it would be appreciated. things i do know are that i do need to be more explosive at the start (tyre comes off ground easy enough but slows down just below knee height) of course my tyre flipping is not helped by being 5"8 but short of wearing platforms i cant do much about this

there is a link below

Height isn't a major factor - some really good tyre flippers are not very tall.

Rather than trying to get underneath the tyre when you get it off the floor, think more about continuing the forward drive with your chest.

Bring your knee up to help the forward momentum

I also like to explode..but then get a knee under and give it a little kick to try and carry it closer to vertical.

although there are some really good tyre flippers who aren't tall their technique is often more explosive to compensate for less height on the pickup

apart from back and front squats and deadlifts, i am thinking good mornings with a hip drive would be good as well.

Just a guess though, but makes sense to me

squats and deadlifts are both in my routine already (was considering switching deads for powercleans as i think this will help my tyre)

have already found cheatcurls benefited getting the tyre off my kneeand over

Karlsen squats! (hack squats on a machine, facing into the machine.) See the Svend Karlsen DVD. Powerclieans will make you more explosive as well.

are you still training events phil that'll be the best way to improve on the tyre, but like others have said doing squats and deads in the gym will help loads as will karlsen squats on the machine jus keep plugging away mate an you'll get better.

to be honest mate, i dont think you necessarily need to add any weird lifts into your routine at this stage. There is plenty of work to be done on the basics, like getting front squat right up there and stuff. Just my opinion and not as experienced as the other posters here

Power cleans is a good idea though, they cant hurt and will have carry over to many other lifts as well.

as i dont have a hacksquat machine at home i would only be able to do Karlsen squats in the same session as i do the tyre, but i guess it would make an interesting part of my warmup
