When i do my cardio at a pace aimed towards fat loss then i do still notice a slight increase in fitness.

Although if i was training just for fitness gains then higher paced cardio would be my choice.

For fitness, something like HIIT would be my recommendation.

However, doing cardio for fat loss will help with your fitness.

I used to do up to 45 mins doing steady state cardio for fat loss and while it worked, it bored the hell out of me and did nothing for my fitness. I switched to HIIT for 20 mins and my fat loss hasn't suffered, in fact it's happening quicker and I'm faster and fitter than I've been for a long time, plus, I don't have to get up as early to do HITT, sweet
