Ive had the mumps since last friday!!!! not good! My neck is like a cobra and i had balls on me at the weekend that would have made mandingo jealous! thankfully they have subsided a bit now!!

Any one else suffering them or have suffered recently?

Considering i was vacinated as a child i wonder is it a new strain of the virus or did my immunity judt drop? hmmm

i had exactly the same, when i used to swim big group of us lads(no girls got it which was strange) caught it 3 days into british championships, impecable timing, and we where all vacinated at a young age, what nobody tells you is your supposed to get a booster at 15, and it cant defend against different strains of the virus.

have you been contacted by a health board wanting some of your spit to test the strain?

Not really anything to worry about, i was fine after about 2 weeks, thats about the time people stopped staring at me,had to put my hood up with a shoe horn, bet its hell eating as well is it? Not meaning to worry you but it will, none us us except one got swollen ball, and he got tested to be infertile after it which was a shame. also id keep your intensity low for a few months, few of the swimmers went back into hard training too early and ended up getting post viral infections, which basicly buggered them. so watch who you spit and piss on, hope all goes well for you

I had it a few years ago in one side of my jaw, luckily didn't spread to the nuts!

    Very weird feeling tbh.

I seem to get every old school disease going lol. Mumps, measles, hooping cough, glandular fever etc

Haha i started an epidemic when i was uni!!!

In october/novemeber of my first year every tom dick and harry had it, there were hundreds and hundreds queuing up to have their jabs, and by xmas it had completely gone. Until me....around march my jaw ached on a night out and in the morning i walked into the kitchen and my mate was like 'WTF is up with your face' - my jaw was like a f*ckin hamster!

In the previously week i had kissed at least 25-30 women and whadda ya know, it all starts again...hundreds got infected!

I was lucky though, only lasted a week and a night out cleared it up. No balls the size of tennis balls thank fcuk!

Oh, do NOT eat anything citrus or sour. I ate a jaffa cake and it was like eating the most sour thing you;ve ever eaten times 100!

yeh i'd take it easy man, the guys who got pre viral infection had swollen glands for the best part of a year, was ugly, watched thier careers go down the pan, or you could just look after yourself i mean in hard training we where getting up at 4 am to swim, so our immune systems consisted of nose hairs. you on zinc supplements, could look into that

yeah it was all cleared up i thought last week end! Had a training session monday night and woke up tuesday wrecked. Still in bed now! Can barely breathe with a bad chest infection. Not sure if they are linked to the mumps previously. Should have taken your advice and not trained!

Going to see U2 the weekend so i need to get better lol!

From what i gather from what the doctor said is that people immunity appears to be dropping as a different "strain" of the mumps is going around!

I guess that makes sense... not the nicest thing in the world is it?!

Apparently eating acidic things like vinegar makes it worse...found that out after eating fish and chips with salt and vinegar to lol...

Not everyone develops a complete immunity from vaccination plus you get some people who can't be vaccinated.  This is why 'herd immunity' is so important, vaccinate as many people as possible so the virus has less chance of establishing.

I believe for the mumps vaccine there is debate as to whether effectiveness is waning or it just isn't that effective a vaccination in the first place.  Not really that up on it though.
