1 have a comprehensive health check & be sure you don't suffer from anything including weird allergies, intolerances etc.
2 assuming you train with basics, and assuming your form is fair, i don't see how you could go wrong: biceps curls; lat machine; leg press are just that way...you push or pull the weight.
3 assuming your diet is average in order & you get enough proper sleep
4 assuming you leave behind fancy new supplement, protein powders & creatine are just that & you ought to have found a brand good for you.

my guess is you may just be OVERTRAINING.
Try 2 gym sessions a week instead of 3.

Welcome to MT, karl. As Liz says, post up your routines. Also what sort of diet your follow too.

I can sympathize with the prob....kinda felt the same way for my first year of training. Turns out i was overtraining-too eager to get them muscles. It all changed when i started to follow Bill Philip's body for life training system....maybe you should check his body 4 life book.

    HI Karl - welcome

Note Liz's comment - are you genuinely training hard? if so then check your nutrition. Also note hometrainer's comment - is this the case?

Post your nutrition regimen here and we'll comment

At least you're not genetically modified, that is always a good start.

Thanks to all you guys who took out time to reply to my message, i will stert here, for 5 months iwas working with a personal trainer eating 4000 calories a day big gain but gort fat, so went on to a lean diet plan and cut carbs and protein down oops, lost all gains plus had flu 3 weeks off. any way i was doing straight pyramids 3 days a week. one hor training. routine as follows mon- chest shoulders and tri Tue- legs and stomach, bi-ceps Fri- would be back shoulders lats. i would change exercise at least every 2 weeks using dif machines and weight excercises, i was eating every 3 or approx 3 hours mainly 55grms protein here , and lots carbs after workouts on rest day only one carb meal this diet was put to me by the trainer who i was paying a high rate for. now i thimnk that might have been wrong. this is the way i am training and eating now . 3 days a week one hour sessions all body parts over the week but with a rest day in between each day i do two warm up sets followed by one balls to the wall set max weight up to 12- 17 reps if i get to seventeen reps then next time i will increase wight by about 5% i would do max weight say get to 10 reps then rest only 20 seconds then do another until cant do another then rest another 20secs then push out final reps on last rep i hold the strain for 30 sec pause then drop wow its hard but is this ok? my diet now consists of mainly fish, chicken eggs oats rice pasta etc i now have looked at bill philips book and have some carb with every meal six meals a day more carbs straight after workout eg, 55grms protein shake water and dextrose followed 2 hours later with 2 breasts of chicken and 125grms rice before bed 35grms protein shake and a apple, next day, breackfast usually one slice of granary toast 10 egg whites two yoaks to make an omelette or something, 3 hours later 40grm protein shake and apple and some flax oil here or olive oil or fish oil , 3 hours later a salmon or ckicken sandwich 2 slices of granery, 3 hour later main meal salmon steaks or chicken with salad snd some small carbs eithr potatoe baked or rice but only 75grm carbs hree later 2 hour protein shake ans apple or cottage cheese with pieapple, then before bed another shake 40 grms no carbs here thats on a rest day on workout days the only diff is slightly bigger carb maels after training, i supplement this diet also with L- glutamine 4 scoops a day and creatine one scoop a day as recommended the protein and glut and creatine are all made by reflex i have never tried steroids but would prob consider it if all else fails i want that body and i do train hard and really try hard to stick to the diet i do enjoy the varied foods thanks if you hsave read all this snd thnks again for all your help

dear home trainer i have in the pats chopped and changed a bit but i was told this is good co,s it confuses the muscles or body is that true
i felt a bit stagnent with the pyramids just doing 3 straight sets and only increasing the wights for a time at laest till i platoed, also i for got to mention that the timing of reps is 1sec push 3 sec slow then push or pull again except wiyh legs that can be 1-5-3

ok lets have a look at your training first i think maybe you need to go to 4 sessions a week say chest bis /legs /shoulders tris /back do abs on a day that suits .
your rep range is to high for building muscle you need to be between 6 and 12 reps .do one or two warm up sets and 3 work sets when you can get 12 reps add more weight so you find it had to get 6 reps .
you dont need to change your exercise untill your gains stop ive followed the same routine for two years and im still growing .
6 meals a day is a good start
brakfast 10 egg whites two yokes is good but you need more carbs say 100grms of oats made with milk
your protein shake is ok but you ned more carbs
    your sandwich is ok
main meal protein ok need more carbs
your other two meals seem low carbs aswell .
sort your diet so you have 6 good meals with carbs and protein more carbs breakfast and after training keep your diet the same on training non training days your supps seem ok last thing leave the steroids alone .

    Karl,

you said you were training on machines. You should train on freeweights (Squats, presses, ....) if you want to build some quality muscle. Also, you want to feel PAIN by the end of your sets.
