legal people

just a quick question,
if someone accuses you of doing something (you havent done) and its concequently proved you were right.
is there any route you can take to sue the person who made the accusation? would this cost you?
just to add james and mods i will not go into any detail on the case, im just enquring about a few things and would appreciate it if you would let this run.

Not a legal person, but as I understand it, all suing costs money.

"The costs of a defamation action are likely to be substantial. An action for defamation must be started in the High Court which is very expensive. Legal Aid is not available and the person concerned may be left with a great deal of legal costs to pay. Indeed he / she may at an early stage be required to deposit funds with the court as an indemnity for future costs. Whilst this would be recoverable in a successful case it does mean a considerable investment at an early stage" http://www.thompsons.law.co.uk/ltext/defamation.htm

They don't say how much but I imagine that it would be many thousands.

    thanks puzzle for the clarification.
seems a trifle unfair for and individual to be hand cuffed in front of their kids, and spend the night in a cell, then be accused by an individual of doing something they havent.
then proved this individual was lying.
there is surley some come back on this?
