What do you mean by messing around?

Im guessing that might have contributed to it.

And yes, obviously i think it would get anyone down motivation wise.

You're looking in the wrong sections...............

Amir, depends what you were doing really. But yeah agree it canknock your motivation. Personally I'd use the frustration for a better workout.

In the company I'm presently leaving, they have a policy of instant dismissal if they find you've been looking for other jobs on the net.

i look at whatever website i want all the time. no porn....but cars, muscletalk etc....

it's just how u take ur little breaks through the day that relax ur mind and make u more productive.

I work from 9 to about 6.45 every day, which are ook hrs....so u need to do summit to chill out in that time. if they trust u, cos uve done great work in the past, and always bring things in on or before they're due, you get alot of leeway.

it was a security job at a site n i let some mates in the site and they found out basically but it was an ideal job for a bodybuilder as i got plenty of rest there and had much needed energy afterwards for a hard workout....if my next job is a physical then it will defo affect my intensity of my workouts and therefore slow down my progress....

Did they just sack you outright? coz thats not right - been doing my research recently coz i had to for work and you cant get sacked out right.

You gotta get a written warning then 2 verbal warnings before they can sack you....and if they want to sack you they gotta invite you to a meeting and discuss thigs before supsending you or sacking you.

If they want to have a policy of firing people for viewing sites not related to the job, that's up to them. But what your company is doing sounds highly illegal. I don't think they'd have a leg to stand on in an industrial tribunal.

Actually that's not true. Some matters can be an immediate suspension - for example fraud. No employer wants people nicking from them while they issue formal warnings.

No offence to those concerned but we've had a few posts on MT (posted during working hours...) about people complaining about their use of PC, discipline and so on. If you were paying someone to do a job - be they plumber, builder or whatever - around your house and you went to the shops and came back to find them on your PC, or with their feet up watching the tele you'd go spare.

So why do others leap to the defense of those who signed a contract which included words to the effect of improper use of PC's and so on as a sackable offence? There they are on £25,000 a year (ie: about £100.00 day) using the works computer and then they get all upset when they get caught and post 'is this right? can they sack me?'. Yes ya lazy so and so's.

No one, me included, likes to see anyone being taken advantage off and that goes both ways. If you are paid to work - then work. If you are doing your job and they try and sack you I'll be the first to help ya. Baring in mind I got the scak from my lst job for too much time off sick - I didn't complain. I was averaging 30 days a year with training related injuries and 'lazybastarditis'. I had notes from the doc and osteo and even x-rays of my injuries. However, I took it on the chin cos I knew it would be the making of me.

If you **** up by taking the piss - be a man and take it on the chin.

Further (and as you asked the question) it's well worth remembering that when people post they only tell you what they want you to know - not the full story and sometimes not even close to the truth.

Sorry mate, i sympathise with you losing your job - i lost mine recently. but going by what you have written above, what you did amounts to 'gross misconduct' and in all honesty, they were right to sack you! No offence!

This i no mate, I work in a hotle and we had to sack our chef immediatley coz he turned up drunk on the job! other things like you suggested fraud and other theft do incure instant dismissal.

If you got something in your contract and you signed it then broke it then fair dos i agree with you - take it on the chin etc... but if not there are certain procedures that empoyers need to follow when it comes to things like this. I was simply making him aware, if he wasnt already, that he could have been dismissed unlawfully.

I myslef f**ked up a job coz i didnt like it there and really didnt try - so i got the sack - i werent bothered!but where i am now we are being taken to court and being sued over the odds for improper dismissal

I've seen some glorious piss takers decide they were hard done by and then try for unfair dismissal. I once got investigated for a racial statement by someone wanting a transfer who'd had it knocked back cos of her attitude. Low and behold I am able to prove my innocence (I made the statement as accused but it wasn't racial), she still threatened to sue the job for how she's been dealt with and got her transfer. Brass!

    well said m8, completely agree.

in this situation- i assume, as a security guard, your job was to monitor the CCTV cameras? if not then patrol the area! anyway, you clearly werent doing this if you were visiting mtalk. unlucky m8, but TBH, and i dont mean any offence by this, i dont have any sympathy.
