making a punch bag silent

hi chaps, i need some ideas. what can i do to make a punch bag silent, or as near to silent as possible, well reaslitically id like to reduce the noise by something like 80%
because using it at home is so damned loud. does anyone know a way i can do this? any ideas

my best though so far is to cover the punch bag in glue and wrap a thick towel around it, obviously id do this gradually or might kill myself with the fumes, but it might take the sound off ?

ah this sucks man, neighbours can hear it 20 doors down the road apparently. which isnt really suprising considering its outdoors, im just totally self concious now when using it which i hate, i know i have every right to use it but i feel rude using it now.

hinting, mentioned they can hear it, which makes me think they are saying it to let me know its loud.

I'm having the same problem, thing is I have recently had to complain to my neighbour about the noise he makes, and I know he's just waiting for me to make some noise so he can get revenge.

So I just try to do it when he's out, failing that I just do the floor to ceiling ball.

Could try getting a heavier bag mate. I used to have a 3ft one that was very light and it used to rattle the chains and each punch sounded loud. Got myself a 5ft canvas bag now thats filled with sand and old bits of material, must weigh about 8 or 9 stone and its a lot quieter, still moves around a lot when i hit it but because of the weight the chain doesnt rattle

what about those bob free standing bags, the bob ones that look like a man, not on a spring, pack it around the base with 40kg sand bags and on top of the base as well. are they quieter?

well it's only for 1 hour at most... and if you do it in the day it's OK

I do believe in keeping your neighbours sweet, but it's part of your lifestyle.
