mt is dead

Anyone else remember that you could start a thread, come back half hour later only to not be able to find it wondering wtf it had been deleted only to find it on page 2/3/4 as it was so busy. When was the last time you went to page 2? Such a shame, where has mt gone?

Social media and political correctness plus the kind of attitudes that those things combined turn people into (crybabies) would be the main killers imo, I’m not bolting though.

MT reminds me of those little fishing villages that have lived well past their heyday, it’s empty streets littered with ghosts of the past, interrupted only by the odd residence of a few old timers that refuse to move on, desperately clinging to their past glories and memories.

It’s social enough for me to gain insight, but not so overpowering that it feeds the contempt I harbour for my fellow man. I like it’s quaint but at times xenophobic residents too lol.

If you do go through the other pages, you'll see that this topic has been discussed many times before lol.

Vegans, I blame vegans!

If it wasnt for vegans it would be a lot deader !

Even theBrexit thread died and no one posted after the May deadline passed!

I despise social media as its completely broken society so this is my only outlet .  This has been discussed many time before yes but its dropped off considerably over the past 2 years. self fulfilling in a way , a quiet forum puts people off from joining , a busy forum has people visting multiple times per day , a lot of trolls have been banned along with good mmebers and then the "thats it im leaving people"

I think the mods could do a little more even if its dupe accounts with interesting and controversial topics .  Most of the stuff I post I don't actually believe , just playing devil's advocate and trying t wind up BR and a few socialists.

would be interesting if James or jason could produce a chart tracking the active users over the years , just out of curiosity.

I just got sick of engaging in conversations only to find that my posts would either take 2 days to appear on the site or they just wouldn't appear at all.

This happened to me again the last time I posted a week or so ago. I responded to someone's post only to find that my response didn't appear. There's seems little point in it anymore.

That seems a very unique problem. There is no mechanism in place to hold back posts. The only thing this could be was a caching issue with your browser.

I rememeber its heyday 2006-2008, "does Ronaldo/Adam Rickets juice", ah the memories! I was very shocked when I came back a year or 2 back and saw how quiet it was, but I suppose with social media etc it's no suprise. I also found the BB crowd a bit right wing and extremely weird when it came to anything about females :D haha, but I DO rmemeber jonnywildboar, his shed and his powerlifting adventures. I made a couple of very very good friends through MT, actually just one that I'm still in touch with (Daz). It will always hold a place in my heart tho <3 :D

such a shame, still my first forum to check but takes seconds literally just out of habit, over moderation did it, no criticism just my opinion, never a great contributor but used to be great reading Drab 4, Pagan, Galeniko and Blue Lagoon 3000 or something like that, Tony outdoor training etc, just banter that got strangled, and here we are

I agree  + the banning of talking about underground gear. Social media may have had an effect but to me its just an easy excuse to blame it on .
You cant freely post up your uncensored thought on social media unless you conform, you have no anonymity. How can you have a debate without activists wanting to burn your house down, people become something different from themselves with social media  . People will think your nuts for suggesting a missile hit the pentagon on 911 , but the earth being flat is all good.  then you have employers profiling you and the next step will be to have a social media hierarchy score based on who you have around with (I think the chinese already have this)

forums like this should still have a lot of appeal

I never quite got the moderating thing.... we were never that ambiguous about the stance we had on things but people would still post dubious threads regardless (often stating "I know it's against the rules but..." then kick off about it.) And then do it again and again still bemoaning the fact. Some of the 'good members' also really weren't what they presented on the forum, yes they would cause some mild tension on the forum but then behind the scenes, PMs, emails etc they could get full on keyboard warrior. And VERY few were not given their 3 strikes, everyone had a plethora of chances - so I don't fully buy that as a reason. It's wasn't that hard to play by the rules, an awful lot of members were able to get thru 2 decades without a sniff of a warning. You could always stay civil here and , like many did choose to do, join another forum if you wanted to get more down and dirty with the debating. MT didn't have a duty to tick everyone's personal opinion of what a forum should be.

Some things just had to be too.... don't forget J&J weren't/aren't anonymous here, everything reflected on them and their careers (and more than once had a negative impact on this - which many will be unaware of - for the benefit of what members wanted). And UG labs, the amount of spammers, people with a vested interest that we would moderate, to then have ourselves accused of being behind labs etc (especially if we caught one but another slipped thru our gaze).

All we wanted was for everyone to conduct themselves (as I used to offer as advice) as tho they were guests round a friends house/party. Showing respect, be cordial etc. Did we get every call right.... no, probably not. Did we get most of the calls right. Yeah, I think we did, hence why MT became as popular as it did. Were all moderators the exact same in their judgements, certainly not and I can see that they could cause confusion but I don't think it was that bad, I think some enjoyed creating a school-like them and us situation.

It's interesting to see how many have stated that they drifted away from training, life took over, other things were a priority..... yet it was our moderating LOL I think clearly over the years people did drift away. New, younger members were now on social media and not looking for a forum, older members had got married, kids, health issues, stopped training whatever, it just dried up with little in the way of new recruits.

I've never stopped enjoying this place tho.... it would make work a drag if I couldn't log on (or at least when it was busier it kept me occupied LOL)
