need advice on deadlift technique

hi, ive been doing bodybuilding seriously only for about 4-5 months, i have just recently changed my routine to the same as `cashmans routine` i did my 1st day today i planned to do 4 deadlifts 3 sets of 8 lattpulldowns 3 sets of 8 barbel curls and 3 sets on one armed hammer curls but the deadlift machines/eqpt was beng used so i went on leg extensions for 2 sets to get my blood going lol

any way i still did the deadlifts (4) really i did 5 coz i warmed up with a 50kg bar

i did the 4 sets of 8 @ 110kg its my 1st day,

then i did my lats and biceps

my question is ` im 6ft2 tall i used a free bar and free weights am i right in thinking i keep legs straight then bend over and pik it up

or do i keep legs straight and bend over and bend knees a little?

i felt as though i was risking a lower back injury, i wasnt wearing a belt is it neccassary?

can anyone make the image of the correct technique clearer in my mind please

dumbell chest press 47.5kg each hand
shoulder press dumbell 35kg each hand
olympic bar squats 155kg
olympic bar deadlift 165kg
(not max`s just what i train with)
27yr 86kg 9%bf

You should try and get your hips quite low at the start of the movement by bending your knees. The start position should be similar to the bottom of a squat. The exrx video is a good one.

Unless you have a pre-existing back injury a belt is not necessary.

If you are new to deads, it may be worth getting someone to watch your technique (or video it) as it can be very easy to round the back without realising.
