need help with legs

can anyone help me put together a leg routine thats intense but won't make them grow? i think my legs are out of proportion to the rest of me but don't want to stop training them. at the moment i'm doing squats, lunges, sldl, 8-10reps. also would like to add size to my buttocks. cheers.

Legs seem fine. Keep in mind your body will keep all muscles generally somewhat in preportion. So if your legs are to big, eveyrthing will eventually catch up. Your routine that you mentioned sounds great.

do 2 warm up sets then 4x15 squats, very deep. Not very heavy but with 1 min maximum rest between sets. You should be able to complete all 15 reps.

The super set leg ext and leg curls, 3x10 reps with no rest between, again using a weight that allows you to complete all your reps

Finally do 2 sets of lunges, each set = 15 on each leg and finnish off with 3 sets of calf raises

    i hate curls and extensions.
want more size on my butt, less on the legs. a guy from gym who i haven't seen for awhile commented today that my butt looked bigger in a good way which made me happy. but legs are still like tree trunks! i've had complete strangers cross the street just to ask me why my legs are so big!

i never did any leg work for the fear of them getting too big and that it would cause muscles to grow out of proportion and i would get running injuries. but on the good advice of people here i started to do high reps, low weight i have gradually increased weight and lowered reps. the results have been amazing, i like my legs for the first time ever, they were always big due to running a lot but now they are more leg shaped except for the wobbly top bit which i have decided to love rather than beat myself up about contantly. and my arse is getting a lot rounder.

    i do
    leg extensions 40 reps
squats 40 reps (vary stance between sets)
    standing leg curl 20 reps

i do this 6 times and the weight is as much as too make it hurt. there are a lot of things i cant do because of running injuries to my feet(been experimenting with different shoes-bad idea)

i have just looked at your photos again you look in proportion in the first one, but you probably picked the best photo to put on. in the second one yes your legs look big, but fantastic and not fat at all. if this is your goal then great, perhaps your sister is jealous or prefers skinny untrained legs. if you like your legs(and you should) then be proud of them and ignore others.

levi - sorry about your injuries :(
is that 40 reps per set times 6?? and you found that didn't put size on them?
i'm in two minds about my legs - some days i hate them because i can't find jeans that fit but other days i love them because they're solid and muscular - rather have my legs than flabby or skinny legs. i'll give your high rep routine a try - do you do them as straight sets?

no i do them like circuits, 1 set of each x 6, i find i can do higher reps this way.
2 mornings a week on my non-running days. i run 8.5 miles on the other days which i think is where my size comes from. i know that running long distane is supposed to reduce muscle size, but it hasn't for me. maybe its because i run a lot of hills as fast as i can and carry a lot of weight as i am nearly 11 stone. i didn't have much shape to my legs though just i big lump of muscle. weights have just given them a better shape. also cured my knee pain.
