picking up RF from someones PC

I read that with the right equipment, it's possible to read what's on someones PC monitor by receiving the radio frequency emitted up to several hundred metres away.

Even the RF from power cables in the PC can be "read".

Just something to consider....

    Interesting.

on that note does anyone know how an rf return panel on a wall is supposed to work. Is it for transmitting a tv signal from one room to another or have i got the wrong end of the stick? I moved into a new flat recetly and there is an RF retutrn panel on living room and bedroom walls but ive not been able to get signal transferred from one room to another.

Possibly from a CRT monitor not from a TFT and Theres nothing that could be read from the power cables as they just supply power, it wont vary according to what letters or pictures are on your screen.

Not with the way modern switches, routers, servers, laptops are being designed in the future - they will all the their power from the LAN via the Ethernet port.

It true, but worked with CRT monitors. Dosnt work with TFT.

One of those spy / survelence gadgets that someone invented.

Microsoft were looking into it too.. figured they could emit a signal from the monitor undetected by the eye.. then send vans around with equipment to detect the signal. Compare that to a list of who has paid for stuff and they could stop piracey. Wernt able to do it though (some legal reson prevented them)

They still wont be reading from the power thats being supplied, it will still be a constant stream. And anyway if all of these routers and hubs you seem to know about take thier power from ethernet ports (which is impossible as they are connected to cat5 or 6 cabling which coulnd carry enough power), at least one of them would have to be plugged into a main power source somewhere.. i.e the socket in the wall.
