presidents of dangerous countries

I was thinking the other day. Why would anyone want to be a prime minster/ president of a war torn country like iraq? I mean you're just going to be a sitting duck/ target.

Look at the position James put's himself in with MT everyday.
Also if you are president of a corrupt war torn country there is mucho $$$$$$ available and the opportunity to do all sorts of naughty things and execute those who disagree.

*please note, by naughty I mean things like dipping the butter knife in the jam or peeing with the seat down

Power. It has been said that the kind of person who seeks power is exactly the wrong person to have power.

Being Saddam Hussein was undoubtedly a better life than living under him with the daily threat of death and torture. I doubt he thought things would end like they did for him. Look at Mugabe, he's managed to run his racket right into old age, I'm sure he's quite happy with his lot.

But there wasn't much internal conflict at his time in power. I mean why would you want to take that job now given what's happening? Obviously money might be the biggest factor. But come on at what cost

Its not the money. You get the sme situation in countries with bugger all money. Its about power. Being the most important person. The worse the power trip the worse the attrocities tend to be. There have been some truly brutal regimes and the reason for the brutality is always to retain the power of the regime over the populace. Make them scared to even think of objection. Money is just another symbol of the power trip. I OWN YOU AND EVERYTHING YOU OWN IS MINE. Gaddaffi was insane and wanted his people to treat him like a god. Thats not money thats power.

Saddam was very good at his job, which was keeping order in a land of pure chaos.  A lot of what he did was against people who did try to exterminate him and he brought Woman's rights to the middle east that were far too humanitarian for the conservatives around him and this caused him to be disliked too.

He did pay himself well but hey its a perk of the job lol
