pressdowns/ cable curls alternatives?

I was wondering if anyone could suggest a god alternative to rope/straightbar pressdowns and cable curls. I know that these are good excercises but just now my equipment access is limited. I have been advised to include them in my arm routine. Anyone got any ideas. All suggestions much appreciated.

skullcrusherrs or close grip bench for triceps
Barbell curls for biceps. Try and get away from cable curling as it is inferior for bicep growth. Please list your current full routine as IMHO you've been misinformed and you may well could do with our help on your whole routine for optimum gains. Also list what equipment you do have access to. Cheers.

I've been pondering over this one; why are cable curls with a straight bar considered to be inferior to barbell curls?
After all with a cable you have tension on the muscle throughout the movement, whereas with a barbell the is little or no stress on your bicep in both the top and bottom position of the movement.
