rollocking from the dentist

Had a crown fitted today (finally) after a tooth broke ages ago.
Anyway, the dentist seemed a bit irritated with me and I was expecting a row about smoking/tooth care/gum care/methods of brushing or something.
But he was actually quite p1ssed about me chewing gum and got quite irritated about my habit of having gum in 24/7.

I wasn't aware it was bad for your teeth - I assumed it cleaned them.

He's pissed that he can't overcharge you for more dental work and get the latest Bentley.

Yeh my dentist told me not to chew gum, even sugar free, apparently it causes some sort of "ripping" action on the enamel.

Interesting as i was always lead to believe chewing gum releases more salivia therefore naturally breaking down food etc in the mouth which may cause decay (or something).

A quick google begs to differ with your dentist rightyho and spencerslide. Apparently a myth? I guess dentists are similar to G.P's then

A rollocking from anyone under my employ would not go down well at all.
I'm surprised at you Righty, I thought that would be the kind of thing you'd love to get in a tizzy about.

What, rot the teeth? Aren't apples very acidic so not too good for teeth? That's what I've always thought anyway.
