yes they're great. I have a lower back injury and I do them instead of normal deads.

    240lbs @ 13% bf

    Squats -- 475lbs
Deadlifts -- Romanian DL (only ones I can do with an injured back) -- 150lbs dumbells
    Bench -- 325lbs

This is a romanian deadlift. http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/issa63abig.jpg
Its basically a straight leg deadlift.

You are wrong in thinking that Romanian Deadlifts are just dumbbell deadlifts, and- I would have thought- probably also mistaken in thinking that doing deadlifts with dumbbells instead of a barbell will somehow protect your back better.

People refer to slightly different things as Romanian Deadlifts. Sometimes it's synonymous with a stiff-legged deadlift; sometimes it indicates a greater bend in the knee and hips further back.

Well I would have thought they are less stress on your lower back because you can keep your body more upright and dont have to lean forward as much as you do with regular deads.I suppose they're similar to trap-bar deads in that respect.

Which is more of a squat than a deadlift

    Yes, absolutely.

So cleg, yes I see what you mean- but then the above comment applies to the dumbbells as well. There's not much difference between a dumbbell squat and a dumbbell deadlift.

Surely... if you've got a back injury, just train normally but with lighter weights until its strengthened up?
