hopefully someone will be able to answer this better than me, but i run 40 miles a week and it doesn't effect my ability to put on muscle. i think its because i've done this for 14yrs so my body has adapted.

i would think if you are just starting to do this it will affect fat/muscle. but there are ways to limit muscle loss while still burning fat, i'll let someone else tell you that i dont know enough and might tell you the wrong thing.

There are many different opinions on this. Mine is that one should always be doing cardio even when bulking, at 3 times per week. This should keep the cardio system ticking over nicely, its not worth risking health for a tiny bit more mass. You say you are a begginer? in that case you will be able to put on muscle and shift some fat at the same time unless you are a very hard gainer. If you have abit of fat to lose then it is beeter to do this before you start a big bulking programme, as bulking will gain you a bit of fat, and if you have to diet down too hard to get rid of it all you risk losing some muscle, so get lean first. In any case I think youre cardio is a good idea.

Losing fat is all about burning more calories than you eat each day.

Running is the best exercise out there for burning calories, but if you eat too many cals you aint gonna lose weight.

Read about nutrition, eat 6 small meals a day, with low GI carbs, high protien, and drink lots of water.

    Good luck.
