stretched skin after weightloss?

Over the past 8 months i have lost over 4.5 stones. All my life i have been overweight-maybe even obese at one point. Before i started the gym (1 month before my 16th b'day) i weighged in at around 18.5 stones, but after 8 months of a lot of cardio and weightlifting and good diet my midsection is still kinda large. I'm suer its not fat as it doesn't feel like fat, it just kinda fells like a 'waterbed'-is this excess skin that needs time to adjust to my new figure or excess water or what? 2 people have told me its just excess skin that needs time to shrink. Has anyone encountered this problem, or have any info etc on the subject?

If you've been overweight a long time your skin may not completely shrink, however as you are young there is a good chance that it will, the best thing you can do is see a doctor, he should refer u to a specialist who will tell you if you need anything doing with it. If the specialist sees it as a problem there is a good chance u will get a tummy tuck on the NHS, as you have been working hard u r more deserving of free treatment then some lazy fatty IMO, but that would be up to the specialist. Hope this helps u mate, and well done.

Just come back from the GP. apparantly it's a combo of excess water and excess skin-however he told me in around 4 months my skin should decrease significantly. What am i supposed to do about the excess water?

Strangly enough, excess water can be reduced by drinking more water! The more water you put into your body the less it feels the need to store.

Try drinking 3 litres of water a day for 2/3 weeks, works wonders for me

Firstly mate well done on the weight loss, bet you feel great huh?
As for the water try watcing/ lowering your sodium intake. This should help considerably.

get some taurine from Holland and Barrett that should sort the water out. Dont worry about the skin, your elasticity should still be good as you are still very young. I am sure it will look better in 4 months

Quite often, what people think is loose skin is actually large fat cells. Following are the things that can help loose skin (in order of importance):
    - Time
    - A really clean cutting diet
    - Hypertrophy...fill the skin with muscle
    - Lotion with Q10

Apparently very good for Edema and water loss. I know a few bodybuilder who take it and they seem very happy with the results.

"Taurine lowers arterial pressure by promoting diuresis and vasodilation (opening of the vessels). A depletion of taurine in the heart leads to a decrease of plasma atrial naturetic peptide (ANP) in the vascular system, causing additional alteration of arterial pressure. ANP secretion caused by increased blood sodium levels is depressed by taurine depletion, leading to a state of diuretic imbalance: excess salt in the absence of taurine leads to an increase of arterial pressure."

this was mentioned above in brief but is sound advice

our bodies still think like it did when we were cave men.
if you stop eating it stores the fat as it thinks you may not eat for a few days.
it does the same with water

    drink 8 glasses a day (2.5 litres)

but what i do is, as i am also trying to lose weight (so far 12KG's)
i eat 5 times a day and before each meal i have a glass of water. this knocks 5 off the daily total and also makes the food swell in you're stomach, making you feel full, quicker.

    i hope this helps

You're right narbie...it is just fat. A lot of people drop from a real high BF to something in the teens and are disappointed that there's still some flab. Just keep cutting and it'll go away.
