the birth of a dinosaur...

The strongest of all warriors are these two..Time and Patience.. (Leo Tolstoi)

after reading dinosaur training, i have decided to start a journal based on the sentiments expressed in that EXCELLENT book.

my workouts will be;

short
abbreviated
basic
brutally hard work
based around heavy compounds
will include some keg/sandbag work for GPP
be centred on low low reps. and lots of singles.
grip work

please note, i have been training PROPERLY for under 2 months. my poundages at the moment are HEAVY for me, but i aim to hit much bigger weights soon.

i have the utmost confidence that within this journal you will see workouts containing 500 lb deads for reps, 300 lb push presses, 500 lb squats for reps. You WILL see these. not now, but you will see them.

I will be training HARD. not long, not much, but HARD. you wont be able to tell this of course, but it will be reflected in my training poundages....

"The era of procrastination, of half measures, of soothing and battling expedients, of delays is coming to its close"

    sunday

high bar close stance olympic style squats

    60kg x 4, 90kg x 4, 120 kg x 4

    push press, clean grip

    60 x 1, 65 x 1, 70 x 1, 75kg x 1 good rep

    dumbell powercleans

    45lbders x 5, 60lbders x 5, 70 llbders x 5

pleased with my workout today, the squats were almost rock bottom ( ass to calf), and were very tough. the last rep took 15-20 secs to get up!!

the dumbell powercleans were a nice variation..

    tommorow is a keg/sandbag session....

    barrel lifting

ok, so i couldnt get hold of some cheap army holdalls, so i could an aluminium beer barrel instead, still it was recommended in d.training.

heres what i did.. ( barrel is 1/2-2/3 full)

powerclean and strict press; 10 x 1. ( felt moderately heavy. but the balancing is the deal here)

( fill barrel up some more)

    powercleans ; 10 x 1 ( starting to breathe heavy, feeling tough)

powercleans and ass to floor front squat; 2 x 5

wrestle barrel to shoulder, walk up and down garden ( 60-70ft five times)

good session. overall a great combination of grip, balance, strength and conditioning..cant wait to try out some sandbags.

ok, ive been revising for my alevels all week, and im very very tired. no excuses tho. today i underperformed

    deadlifts ( no belt/straps)

    60 x 5, 100 x 5, 150kg x 2 ( missed the third rep)

    flat db bench

    40s x 5, 50s x 5, 70s x 4 ( missed the fifth rep)

ok so i was going to do some front squats but i called it a day/ i wasnt feeling good, but i gave it everything i had. i shouldve nailed three reps on the dead, and blasted five on the bench.

i will only be training twice a week for the next month due to exams.

hope to get 160 kg x 5 on the dead, and 130 x 5 with good form on the squat in that time.

the reps are explosive. that doesnt mean the weights fly up! on the deads they are very slow.. as 150 kg is alot when u havent been deadlifting for long. mate, i implore you to deadlift. it is not jus a strength movement. since deadlifting regularly ive gotg thicker all over, my traps and neck have thickened. my spinal erectors are starting to buldge out.

    deadlift mate.

    do u squat regularly?

hows ur revision gone? mines ok, but im very tired.

Ive Deadlifted about 4 times, it was part of my routine. I also started Squatting around the same time.

But I train at Hull Uni gym and the upstairs hall (with all the good stuff in it) has been closed for the past 3 weeks or so for exams. So I havent done either frequently.

I do actually like Dealifting though, and I agree its an excellent exercise. Im going to see how the routine goes as it is for a couple of weeks and if I still have plenty of energy, Ill to add in Deads and maybe some more leg work.

I had a couple of AS Economic retakes today, I stayed up pretty late revising so Im a bit tired today. It was worth it though I didnt need to improve them but I definitely did so it takes the pressure of a bit.

Got A2 UK Economy on Tuesday though, so Im cracking on with that. What board are you doing for Economics mate?

i dont know what board. AQA maybe. i forget. i got it on the 20th.
i have r.s on tuesday, so im getting on with that. i find economics i(quite) difficult. i like porn too much tho, always having wnak breaks.

i dont have alot of pressure on me either. im on three high a's and i need A,A,B.

still feels a little more stressful than AS levels.

Yeh some of the Economics stuff is quite challenging, but its best to think of the core concepts, demand, supply, elasticity, trade, fiscal, monetary etc and it all links together. Ive been using www.tutor2u.net its really informative and its even got an Economic forum!

Anyway, Im sure your jiggy, youve got less work to do than me anyway

    good workout

    deadlift ( wide stance) 60 x 3,100 x 3, 150 x 3 ( HELL YEAH!)

    flat db bench ; 60 x 5, 70 x 5 ( P.B), 70 x 3

farmers walk. 100 lb dbs x 4 laps of the weightroom

also had a good chat with the gym owner, what a legend! a bodybuilder but a strong one at that, he said he has squatted 225 kg for 10 reps! [:0]

got him to check my bodyfat, he says its 15%. well im gunna lower that to 12% by the time i go to uni, and still get stronger.

pleased with the deads, i got 150 kg last week, bit it was more like 2 singles. today i got 150 for 3 continuous..and i know i had more in me :)

of course, the 150 kg x 3 was totally raw and done with an underhand/overhand grip.

i went sumo on those babies and loved it!

will be swapping routine around a little, i am dropping the oly squats for front squats.... and im going to work on proper powerlifting form.

also i am going to be adding in good mornings to the mix soon.
