the saying glass jaw etc

how can some ppl keep taking hits to the jaw and some are knocked out in 1 punch?
standing with a loose jaw will prob garantee you getting knocked out right?

is having strong jaw muscles and keeping your teech hard together the key to not, or help reduce the chance of getting knocked out from being punched on the chin? as well as tucking chin into your chest.

any of you boxers and other fighters do anything t strengthen up your neck muscles?
like neck bridges?

Having your mouth open and getting hit is a sure way to get it dislocated mate that`s for sure.
Without being too indepth, some people are just more punch resistant than others, for those that aren`t, well you can work on your neck muscles etc, technique and style to limit exposure,

The gumshield is there to bite down on. Once you stop biting it, it has no effect at all on reducing impact to the lower jaw. I don't know how jaw muscles would make much of a difference to a hard punch, unless they were so weak as to stop you biting.

Its all in the neck mate, train that neck of yours ie strengthen the neck muscles, take it easy at the start but as its a sensitive bit of kit.

mike tyson still would of had his jaw broken if he didnt keep his mouth shut mate

strong neck muscles keep the head straight and can help to prevent a knocking out but it will not prevent the brain moving

for some people they just naturally can take punch's. some get rocked constant in the gym etc which i think isnt good for a fighter. if you have a glass jaw i dont think you should fight. its not worth the risk IMO

as others have said bite down on the gumshield. Also don't neglect neck training. IMO having a strong neck isn't the be all and end all but it definately helps to prevent a knockout.

Many of the reasons given are definate factors in being able to take a punch, but I believe, that for the most part, being tough and durable is in the mind.

apart from the obvious strengthening of the next muslces and not leaving your mouth open, theres not alot you can do about having a 'glass jaw', youre either able to take a punch, or your not in my opinion and experience.

as above mate,if your jaw is cracked ard enough, itn jarrs the nerves from your jaw/face up to your brain, this will knock you out unless you are a rare individual,or are being hit at less than full power/further away from your chin/being hit through your gaurd etc.sustained punches to the head will take effect eventually tho.saying that,if you get punched anywhere bar the chin and are knocked down or out, then you as said be best off not fighting.

i think the stronger traps and neck stops the head from moving as far so intern aids the bouncing of the brain of the skull which is cause of unconsciousness but everyones different theres 5 lads between 22 ~26 brothers and cousins we all trained together some harder hitters some faster all of similar height and weight but we tended to go fairly hard in the sparring (sibling rivelry)
all could take it bar one as he was knocked clean out 3 times and it wasn't a hard punch he simply has a glass jaw dont know why, he got knocked out with a left jab which we all thought was hilarious apart from him.he carried on training hit like a train but couldn't take any sort of punch to the chin .
imo HES GOT MORE GLASS IN HIS JAW THAN A CHANDELIER

do you think more hits to the chin/ face toghtens you up and makes it harder to knock you out ovre time, or does that not change?

I highly doubt it Stone and wouldnt recommend a training method like that

Someone like Butterbean would be hard to knock out so because he doesnt have a neck where as James Thompson who has been knocked out several times has quite a long neck.

I've been knocked out once in rugby when a lad (my now best friend) who is a 100m sprinter ran into me full pace with his shoulder in my face.

i think ive got a lng neck, well average length, so tucking your head in and lifting shoulders up would be best, if you wer to het hit in face

I didnt say Butterbean hadnt been dropped but looking at certain guys he seems to be able to take more punishment than other guys.

One great thing to work whether its boxing or mma is just your overall defense, do footwork drills and your blocking of shots too in sparring

Do you reckon bad guidence of the teeth would make it a bit easier to knock you out? (as in you cant quite clench all your theeth together as a few come 2gether first i.e. the canines are the only teeth touching and the others are not quite touching... like some of the exaples on this page http://www.bocaratoncosmeticdentist.com/biteocclusion.html.)
