does anyone else have the same trouble of trying to find a reliable training partner? all starts off well for like the first couple of weeks, but then they all lose interest. really starting to piss me off! i personally trian much better with someone as i can lift heavier and not be afraid of dropping the weights on my head! anyone in a similar position? especially in the south wales area!

do you train in a gym or at home mate?

if you train in a gym you can always ask at the reception for someone to come and spot you while you train so that you dont eed to rely on anyone else - and you dont have to spot no one either!!!

i train in a gym yeh,. but my category is i kind of fall into a "midway" category of trainers. im serious about my training, and try to train as best as i can, but im not as big as the big guys, so i would slow them down if i trained with them. but at the same time, im stronger and more serious than all the youngsters or all the guys that are just starting out.

The best training partner i ever had was my brother. He was bigger and stronger than me, and that pushed me so hard to be better than him. I was also his best training partner as he trained hard to not allow me to beat him. Unfortunately, he doesn't train anymore, so I'm kinda in the same position. My new training partner turns up every now and then.

It can be very difficult getting a training partner,

i had one when i first started and i prefer having a partner because i am competitive and perform better under these conditions

but now i just accept i wont find anyone

yeah Ive had lots of training partners.....dont want one now......not unless the parnter could be my biatch and do every movement I want when I want etcetcetc....I dont wanna spend half my time in gym doing stuff for someone else anymore...selfish but true.

Thankfully Ive been training at my place for about 3 years and have lots of mates there so if I need a spot or a lift in theres always someone to help but a regular parnter no no no thank you

annoying as you really actually want someome stronger and bigger than you to push you that little bit more, ive trained with alot of really huge guys, and none of them ever complained about having to change the weight or anything. But i think they saw that i had the attitude to push myself and that i was serious in my traing, so i wasnt wasting their time.
I thnk thats the most important thing when finding a training partner.

yeah its a pain! i never relied on a training parnter just people who would be around to help out and spot me n stuff.

    ^^^^^ LOL Mil

Good training partners are hard to come by that's for certain. Have used didfferent training partners for different days/ body parts which worked quite well and helps to avoid plateaus etc and i do train harder than would when on my own- must be the competitive aspect i reckon.

ye its definitly the competitive aspect of training with a partner that helps me try push that little bit more. Always nice to say you can push more than your partner
in reply to cu3ed, you are right about training with the bigger guys, because im sure they would push you harder, but i bet youd learn a hell of a lot off them too. i just dont know any of the big guys in my gym, so how would i go about saying lie "can i jump in with you here"? id expect a slap!

My training partner is lazy. It does my head in cos he gives up mid-routine, or gets bored and for example ditches doing chest and starts doin a few bicep curls instead. He's also got the worst diet you could ever imagine (his idea of protein is gettin a burger from mcdonalds) and just doesn't take it seriously.

And what's more annoying is that he criticises my routine and technique every now and then when I know I'm doing it right. I'm the one making gains and all he is doing is getting fat! I'd rather go on my own to be honest but its too late, i'm stuck with him!

i used to have one a while ago but gave up on it, the whole waiting an extra half an hour for him to turn up then have him try to swerve legs cos that was the only session i was stronger than him on got on my nerves in the end.

Train on my own now, if i need a spot for my heavy set i borrow someone but thats only really on bench and occasionally squats

Have the same prob..............there's no woman here who lifts heavy, and works out during the day..............so i have to rely on myself.

Wud luv a partner tho....................makes me competitive and i work out harder.
