vibrating plug socket

umm well before i call an electrician or try and solve this wonder if anyone has any ideas.

Plug socket on the wall which is some type of safety socket with blue and red test buttons on it, suddenly started vibrating and wont stop, tried pressing all the buttons ( can you tell idont know what im doing yet) not sure what its doing does anyone know. its fairly noisy.

    i take it its an R.C.D nip down bnq buy a new 1 sounds like its fualty be a lot cheaper than calling a sparky out mate and there easy change

    ok mate cheers ill get a new one tommorow and turn the electricity off and refit it, cant be that hard cant it. i dont know if its an RCD but ill obviously recognise another one when i see it. thanks

    no mate easy peasy change can be a bit awkwark if the wires are a bit short just just make sure your connections are nice and tight and be careful you dont trap any wires when fitting the new 1

    does the rcd 'trip' when you push the test buttom?
    press test.
    turn the mains off then on again.
    turn rcd back on
    see what happens

    Just remeber water and electric doesn't mix... and we are supposed to be 70% water aren't we?
