we all have attention deficit disorder

If it can't be explained or make sense in 30 seconds, we ignore it.

I believe this to be true.  Whether talking to parents, friends, pupils, colleagues...

What do you think?

Not true. Far too much of a generalisation. It might be true of SOME.

Agree 100%. Though I have always thought I have A.D.D. little bit more than average Joe.

In the past with drugs, most noticably Amphetamines, my concentration levels were amazing!

Not sure whether it is ADD to be honest mate.

People still sit through 3 hour films and love them, people still follow a TV series that spans years and love it.

There is definitely a move towards 'sound bites' though, whether it be politics, marketing etc...

Is this a bad thing though? The most valuable things can often be distilled down to a few sentences. It's much harder to get your point across in 30 secs effectively than 30 mins.

Things evolve for a reason! If we don't evolve with the times then we will get left behind.

ADD is overused as an excuse for childrens bad behaviour.Parents always look for something else to blame but their bad parenting skills.

Same as everybody who has not bothered to learn to spell claiming dyslexia.

So you think watching Eastenders for 20 years is proof that attention spans are not dwindling and intellects are not being challenged?

Yet MOST movies and TV are so brainless that they also serve to dumb down the masses..   which of course is what they are designed to do.

ADD and Dyslexia are proper conditions, although they may be too widely used.

People use the same reasoning to say 'depression' doesn't exist and people just need to pull themselves together, bipolar disorder doesn't exist etc etc...

Things may be overused/overclaimed, but this is unfair to those who genuinely do have a medical condition.

Lol, Yohimbe, soaps/films serve to dumb down people? Are you sure it's not just because it's what people want/like and thus they make money?

    Some, maybe.

However I do feel there's a tendency in the modern media (and modern politics) to attempt to distill quite complex issues, with many different sides and vast grey areas into simple black-and-white soundbites which serve to dis-inform rather than inform.

How many of your ordinary-joe, man-on-the-street types will associate the words 'afghanistan' with 'war on terror' and 'iraq' with 'weapons of mass destruction' without having any idea (or caring!)  whether the risk of terrorism has increased or decreased due to our intervention in afghanistan, and as to whether or not 'weapons of mass destruction' actullay existed in Iraq, let alone were the real reason for the invasion?

Propoganda usually works through soundbites - in was one of Goebbels' prime principles (and has, interestingly, been perpetuated by supposedly 'democratic governments ever since)

I think in this reasonably rushed part of the world, if someone isnt making themself clear initially in a conversation many wont attempt to listen much further.

Its the modern media ,look at cartoons ,films and then go look at one from the 70's
Most modern stuff cuts out the background, the info and is all just quick flashes
net dont help build years of friendship or just add and block?
