what effects does cardio and aerobic exercise have on the body?

Right i am curious!

When Bulking most people tend to neglect even dismiss any type of aerobic or cadio exercise.

If people do exercise on the days they are not weightlifting then they perform 45-60min aerobic exercise (65%MHR). which for me burns around 400-450 calories and i theroy mostly fat. i have a polar hrm and it tells me that about 65% of the calories i burn is from fat and my average heart rate is 130b/p (220b/p - age(21))=130b/p

So i am almost bang on the mark for fat burning.

But i like to perform HIIT cardio rather than aerobic exercise. I do a 5 min warm up the 20min HIIT then a 5 min cool down. I burn 450+ calories and 45% from fat.

My question is, am i doing myself any damage doing HIIT the aerobic exercise? will it effect some one who is bulking doing HIIT on day they are not weight training. You Burn the same amount of calories, more from carbs with HIIT. But if you eat enough and have a solid diet is it ok to do HIIT?

Neither aerobic nor HIIT should have detrimental effects so long as your glycogen levels are high enough.

Unless you have a really fast metabolism or are seriously cutting (as in competition level), you should be able to maintain muscle mass with a decent amount of cardio in your routine. And even if you have a fast metabolism it is just a case of sorting you diet out.

If you enjoy HIIT then include this type of cardio in your routine.

I personally find that exercising in the 'fat burning zone' is tedious in the extreme. When I am very old and CANNOT raise my HR any higher then fine, but for now I want to train as fast and hard as I can.
